I was held up at gun point and shot at in my younger years when I didn’t keep one chambered. Since then I’ve kept one chambered. Precious seconds count.

Yup ! Every day that I carry, there is one in the pipe before I walk out the door

I carried for a couple months without one in the chamber because I was uncomfortable. Now I carry with one in the chamber because I'm comfortable and don't have kids. Thanks for the great content!

It's not loaded if there's no bullet in the chamber so you're essentially carrying a boat anchor

Do you have time to put your seatbelt on before an accident? No? Exactly so you wont have time to rack your slide.

Street fights are fast and final in a second or 2. Its just you and whoever else you're with, likely protecting but maybe a backup. No talking except a profane racist expletive demand for your car keys, wallet and cash. If you can draw fast enough its just to pull the trigger, not so much to flick off a safety, and less so to use the other hand to rack the slide. Support hand ? 1 handed at 2 arms length, the distance to hand it over. Have been there often enough to know. Military combat and law enforcement apprehensions are different.

What I never understood though, are folks who are adamant about carrying one in the chamber, but don't have shake awake on their red dot if one is mounted on their carry weapon or home defense setup. Many red dots go to "sleep" after inactivity and need to be manually activated when needed.

Yes, but in a holster... not in pocket, Fannie pack, purse...loose. In chamber only in holster. Without holster. NO.

When I bought my first gun, I was nervous about removing a live round in the chamber. I practiced with dummy rounds to cycle the gun and that helped build more confidence.
I agree, we should keep a live round in the chamber because it’s not easy to rack a gun under stress and if it’s not fully racked, a jam can occur causing you to fuss about sorting out a jammed gun while avoiding danger.

I carry with one chambered and my carry ammo is JHP. 'Nuff said. 😎

Absolutely! Violence happens quickly & you may only have one hand to draw & protect yourself, so don't that chance!

Hold on a second mr bad guy, I have to rack one in.

Yep in an emergency situation where I don't have time to think I want my defense to be ready to eliminate the threat before I have time to think.

I was armed with a revolver until we were issued Sig Sauer P-226 semi autos. From the beginning I realized that all my brothers were doing what I decided - one in the chamber then load another in the magazine. Being forced to rack the slide in a gun battle made NO sense.

For me, it depends on which holster, clothing, and where I'm going.
My EDC is a Walther 9mm with a hard-plastic IWB retention holster, so yes, carry with one in the chamber, no safety. Ready to rock.
My mouse gun is a Ruger LCP Max (380acp) with the little soft pocket holster that came with it. It is convenient for house carry and going to the mailbox, wearing sweat pants. In that case, chamber is empty.

Did in the military and continue to do so.

You missed it. The argument is... the risk of negligent discharge VS the risk of not being able to fire when you need to. The risk of one rises when and the other goes down. Do you have stats on negligent discharge? Is it prevalent or rare? That may end the argument.

If you’re worried about shooting your junk off, buy a da/sa handgun.
