I REALLY wanted to get the new studio display, I found a 27” Cinema Display in a thrift store for $15 and it legit works perfectly fine lol and kinda scratched the inch and saved me about $1, 585

Greetings from Turkey! I also continue to use my mid-2014 15" MacBook Pro with my Thunderbolt Display. I have a hanging stand for my MacBook Pro, so that I can hide it behind the display. I have a Apple Superdrive DVD Drive attached to the display, although I use it rarely. Just as you have mentioned, I use the SD card slot with a Baseqi adapter and a Samsung 256 GB MicroSD card in it to double the storage capacity. I do some HD video editing for creating surgical operation videos, but my main usage is for writing articles, making some statistical data sheets and reviewing medical literature. Considering my usage profile, I think this set up will remain relevant for many years more.

Thank you for mentioning the iPhone 6s. I have a 128 GB 6s Plus with a new battery, and it's still responsive and has a bright, detailed screen. My primary everyday phone is a 128 GB iPhone 11, but I use the 6s Plus mostly for music, as it's the biggest of the last iPhones with a headphone jack.
I acquired a Thunderbolt Display a few days ago, and it's AMAZING. It looks and sounds fantastic, works flawlessly with my M1 Max Mac Studio, I appreciate the FireWire 800 at the back, and I got it for about $80, which is probably one of the best deals I've ever gotten.
I have a growing collection of vintage Macs, nearly all of which I've thoroughly upgraded. I have a 15-inch mid-2012 MacBook Pro, which I've upgraded with a 1 TB SSD and 16 GB of RAM. I also replaced the SATA cable and the screen, which had a mild but annoying purple-green column of distortion.

I'm still rockin' my MacBook Pro 15" 2015 for web development. Yes it is showing its age under heavy load but it is still usable even coupled with a 4k monitor.

It is 2021 Apple just announced the new M1 MacBooks and I just got myself a mid-2015 2.8Ghz MacBook Pro, paired with a 27” Thunderbolt Display. A dream setup it is.

The Thunderbolt Display at 1440p (2k) rocks and you can cheaply get two of them side by side - my setup with a 2015 MBP top spec for around $500 now in 2023 (including the computer!). If I have one negative is the glossy screen in bright rooms.
