Lee Carsley's First Interview As Interim Head Coach Of The Three Lions

Lee Carsley has been named interim head coach of the England senior men’s team as they prepare for the 2024-25 UEFA Nations League campaign.

Carsley, who has been leading the MU21s, will take charge of the September matches against the Republic of Ireland (away) and Finland (home). He is expected to continue in this role throughout the autumn while the FA searches for a new permanent head coach.

Based on how his under 21s side played, he definitely knows how to get a team playing an exciting brand of football. I think his biggest challenge will be changing the mentality of the senior team to give them the confidence to play that way. It will likely require making some big calls in terms of personel, and I really hope he has the conviction to make them. I think the potential of England under Carsley is huge.

Absolutely in full backing of Carsley. What some probably won't pick up on, is that he's been through different stages of football, and learnt more than I'd say Southgate did before he had the England job, as all he did was work at Middlesbrough and potentially learn some things from the unfortunate relegation. Southgate only worked with England U21 afterwards. Carsley has had more varied experience, which I think will serve him well. And, I also think he'll use more players who can hopefully come from U19 and U21 up to seniors. We need to look at how a country like Spain is culturally set up in football, and try to replicate.

Lee Carsley was an underappreciated part of Derby's midfield back in the mid-late 90's under Jim Smith and Steve McClaren. I remember watching him as a season ticket holder at Pride Park. Never expected that he would one day be England manager (interim or not!).
Here's hoping a former Ram can bring glory to the Three Lions!!
