To all of those like me that were having trouble making the background black here are a few tips that will help.

1). Decrease distance between flash and subject. Adjust output accordingly.

2). Increase distance between subject and background.

3). If using bare flash manually zoom flash head to 70 or 105mm depending on subject.

Through trial and error I found these out myself and finally got a black background. Cheers!!!
