as a two time cancer survivor, i have had over 100 of these along with bone marrow biopsys. my back is sore for about 5 days after it but i only need prescription pain meds for 3 days and ibuprofen for the other two days (also the headache thing is true, i did it once and i had a headache for an entire day it was terrible)

I had a spinal tap. They tried twice because the first time failed, in which they tried to do it by feel. The 2nd time, they used an x-ray to guide the needle in. They used numbing stuff, so I never felt the needle.

The day of the procedure, I was fine. The next day, if I wasn't lying down, it was like my head was exploding. It was the WORST pain I've ever had! I was effectively bed bound. The moment I would lie down, I got instant and complete relief, but as soon as I got up, I'm damn near crying it was so bad. No pain killers would work. It lasted a week and suddenly resolved itself in the middle of the last day.
