100 Disney Channels Are Shutting Down

Disney Channel, Disney XD, and Disney Junior have been losing popularity, along with many other cable channels under the Disney brand. Because of this, more shutdowns are on the way around the world, as entertainment takes a new path in streaming.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek mentioned that 100 Disney Channels will be shutting down throughout 2021, as most of the content will instead be placed on streaming service Disney Plus. The important question is: when will we get new episodes of The Owl House, Amphibia, and Big City Greens on the streaming service the day they air? At that point, Disney Channel will likely be gone.

I don’t like the idea of having to rely on the internet for literally

Sadly, it's no surprise, Disney+ is just gonna replace everything.

As much as i love streaming, i will really miss catching premieres on the classic screen

There is something magical about a show premiering live on TV, like you yourself are watching it at the same time as everyone else and it’s like a big shared experience...streaming just doesn’t capture that sensation

Everyone who watched Disney Channel: "You shut down this channel and you shut down our dreams! At least my dreams...."

I must be getting too old, because I am NOT liking this decision. Streaming is just simply going to evolve into cable on the internet. Nothing is going to change except the "box" you watch your stuff on, and the more money you'll spend... and I find this change redundant and pointless, BECAUSE of that!

Disney Channel: Shutting Down
Disney+: having more focus on by Disney (killing audience interest)
Nickelodeon: *Confused Standing*
Warner Media (Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Cartoonito, Boing, Tooncast, Pogo, Ohiko!, Adult Swim, Toonami, Crunchyroll Anime, Studio Ghibli, DC, HB Cartoons, Discovery, e.t.c.): actually beginning to think of those who use Satellite TV outside the US. And knowing not everyone will do streaming.
(Owned By AT&T Warner Media) Cartoon Network and Boomerang: it's free real estate.

My question is: Are they also gonna take down all the “and you’re watching Disney channel” magic wand IDs?

Yeah, a lot of these channels are foreign channels like all the Star channels in Asia.
Don’t forget Disney owns (or co-owns) Disney, Star, Fox, A+E, and ESPN channels around the world, and a lot of them don’t perform well enough to keep running.
As for the US, if any channel will shut down, it’ll be Disney XD. Are they even airing anything new?
Canadian viewers are safe since Disney channels there are owned and operated by other companies, using a license.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if one day all of cable is just completely nonexistent and all we have is streaming.

It can be less convenient than streaming, sure, but I still like seeing things when they premiere on live television. If things premiered the same day on streaming, then yeah, I’d stop paying for cable.

It’s sad to live in the era where tv dies. It’s understandable though,

I enjoy watching stuff on tv. It’s something about waiting for it to air on tv that makes the show seeing it worth it In waiting and watching.

I'm actually against the streaming service uprising. Especially with things like holiday specials. The fact that you don't have to wait to see them each year may be convenient, but is it truly special then.
And Don't get me started with apple and the Charlie brown contract.

This was bound to happen. With Disney+, there's literally no reason to have their channels (unless you don't have streaming, of course). It's kind of sad, though, especially since I grew up with nothing but cable.
