Unprecedented technological wizardry: Miniaturisation
Fitting all the working components into this life-sized bird's body (8 cm x 2 cm inner diameter) meant leaving all the standard micro patented mechanism methods behind and starting from a revolutionary design:
• Ultra-compact structure, a centrally aligned "vertebral column".
• Mecanics, a proprietary patented speed reducer at the end of the motor enables the usual extensive train of gears to be avoided and a tenfold reduction in the space required.
• Electronics, for optimising the number and layout of components and producing a postage stamp-sized board! As well as using a manufacturing process with tolerance levels worthy of watch-making.

Manageability and range

A bird is not an aeroplane and does not use the same principles to get around. After watching how real birds perform, we developed and patented a control system that uses wing bending, enabling fast and instantaneous manoeuvres that are not possible with a classical drift system. It's thanks to this system, coupled with its adjustable tail effect, that you can even fly it around your sitting room! Outdoors, the amazing range of the radio control (100 m) with its laboratory optimized aerial lets you follow the birds into the clouds.
Weight and materials

We could write extensively on the number of steps we had to work through to achieve à the incredible weight of 8.35 g for the finished bird. Each component, down to the smallest axles, has been the result of a weight-optimization study. The motors: the battery has been developed to an outstanding quality in collaboration with the most specialised manufacturers. The two processors: the most advanced electronic components in miniaturisation have been selected. Unconventional materials (liquid crystal polymer, carbon fibre, self-lubricated polyacetate) have been used to maintain performance while reducing the weight. Not to mention the wings research, enabling such great propulsion.

2.4 GHz Spread Spectrum

We have selected the system that works best in the field of modern top-of-the-range radio control, 2.4 GHz, even though at first sight it is bulkier and more complicated to develop than the normal infra red type or 27 MHz systems. The reason? To "eliminate" the problem of cutting out and the ludicrously short range of the systems mentioned above, once and for all. To use Spread Spectrum's ability to synchronise the bird and its radio control automatically and so be able to play with several at once in the same place, without requiring a separate "processor". At the very heart of this technology, we have selected top-of-the-range American processors which allow the required range to be reached and provide some advanced functions you will discover when using your Avitron.

I still have my wind up bird that your grandfather designed - it's my favorite toy that survived my childhood. I was fortunate to have been able to purchase replacement rubber bands for it a few years ago too. I will start saving for your v2.0 with the controller. I look forward to trying it out! Thank you for following up on your dream! Paul

I had the chance to meet the first inventor of the mechanical pigeon. His name was Monsieur Albertini, originally from Corsica, he lived in Marseille in a beautiful villa in the foothills of Marseille Vert. His workshop of `` geo-finds '' was the absolute dream for the kid that I had. Planes everywhere, engines, radio controlled planes with radio commendes of his invention, for the time it was fabulous. At that time his pigeon was the first operational free-flight aerodine to move by flexible wing with alternating flaps. The engine was a rubber band reassembled with each flight by a crank ... The plastic sheet of the wing, of its design, was tear-proof. The flight could be corrected by prior adjustment of the tail ... Thank you very much for continuing to build cool toys.

People keep filling themselves with hate for anything they don't approve of. I think that's an awesome little machine. It looks like a lot of fun. Good Job!!

Really clever gearing, great work, I want one to herd my ducks in at their bedtime.

Interesting... The flight is more like a bat than a bird.

That's nice after all the birds are gone we can use these.

I can just imagine one of these getting banished to the phantom zone by a hawk. Still pretty cool!

I had one but it was elastic band powered and it looked beautiful. That was over 50 years ago.

I love how you can cut the flapping and glide it around
