I switched last year from the cheapest premium to Shell V-Power + Nitro and the change was dramatic. U.S. gas mileage numbers on my Volvo 960 with 122, 000 miles on it were in the 26.5 mpg range before the change over. A friend Wayne Gerdes who holds several U.S. Guinness World Records for fuel economy suggested that I change fuels.

I tossed in a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner with the first tank of Shell V-Power to get things started. After about two hundred miles the engine really smoothed out but I didn't see an increase in the fuel mileage. It was around the third tank that I saw a major jump in fuel mileage in the car. The mileage on the highway at 65 mph jumped from the mid 26's to 29.2 mpg U.S.. The car sits a lot since it is only used on long trips due to the fact that around town it's expensive to drive since it only gets around 15-16 mpg. A 10-11% increase in fuel mileage on the highway is well worth the few cents more I pay for the Shell fuel.

My daily driver a 2010 Toyota Prius saw a five percent increase in fuel mileage after a few tanks of Shell 87 regular gas.

I'm sold on using Top Tier fuels in my vehicles and Shell has become my exclusive fuel for both cars.

Im still seeing fuel economy improvements after using it for a year straight. Currently up to a 10% improvement. Personally I think most of the benefits can only be seen after long term usage.
