Punjab is grappling with an outstanding debt of Rs 3.74 lakh crore, constituting more than 46 percent of the state's GDP of over 8 lakh crore. This translates to a per capita debt of Rs 1.24 lakh for each of the state's three crore residents. Punjab, once India’s richest state, has slipped and fallen behind. MSP and subsidies should continue, but it needs to rediscover its entrepreneurial impulse. Watch #NationalInterest, originally published on 16 January, 2021, with the Editor-in-Chief @ShekharGupta

Punjab is a Victim of Self-Praise, "Superiority Complex" etc They need to Learn from People of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka etc Who Doesn't boast Too Much About their Technological and Industrial Success, They simply move, But Punjab thought itself soo powerful that They settled with Poor Quality and Highly Government Dependent Agriculture, As a Result every young Punjabi after finding out all that "Superior" thing is a Sham when there are no Non-Agri Jobs, They Wants to Move out of the State by any means and Bengalis too

Punjab has taken the LEFT turn similar to the many EU countries where people ask for 4 day work week, free this, free that etc.

That path doesn't meet progress in the longer term.

Freebie is reason.
Yes it includes electricity, subsidies and MSP.

Over-reliance on a limited set of crops makes the region vulnerable to market fluctuations and risks associated with those specific crops. Crop diversification can provide a more resilient agricultural sector, reducing the impact of price volatility

1. Prioritizing agriculture over any other sector and huge amount spent on subsidies.
2. Lack of industrialisation
3. Lack of leadership to promote industrialisation and service industry.
4. Still state gdp is dependant to agriculture.
5. Brain drain of educated youth.
6. These farm unions are so powerful in punjab that every government has to utilize maximum resources on agriculture, lack of capital expenditure.

Aap's policies are going harm it further.
Kejariwal is enjoying Delhi, because being capital, even his opponent can't afford Delhi to fail.

Arvind Kejriwal is doing same as Sonia with Punjab state, instead of driving farmers into development they are using them for their own political gain. They are playing with fire for their own political gains. Definitely it’s going to backfire AAP in next assembly elections.

Punjab top per capita till 2000 because upto then no state is properly industrialized, mostly state economies depend on farming.

Stop calling land owners as farmers. Farmer is the one who does farming. It should be very basic

I know lots of Bihari laborers who return from punjab- sick with HIV from rampant drug use in punjab. Some of them died and lot of them getting treatment at local hospitals.

As per Gupta ji, For Modi to be good he has to excel in every single indicator, but photo of 3 middle age women reading books means entire punjab becomes sober.. *unbiased journalism++*

If they are so keen on learning, then they would've changed the way Punjab was being managed. They would've had industries representing diverse sectors and not be reliant on farming so much.
