Hard Sparring | Expectation vs Reality

I'll get people who ONLY click and watch my hard sparring videos, skip the 90% of my light sparring videos and comment "You only spar hard".
In reality, I actually spar hard 10% of the times and 90% of the times I spar light and technical for skill development and longevity. When you travel the world, visit so many different gyms and spar so many different/new people, you are bound to run into people that go hard on you and things can escalate. I fully admit I don't always do the right thing and de-escalate the situation, but that's because I know I will post it for entertainment/views! I feel it is important for everyone to know that these hard sparring sessions happen a lot less frequently than you think and the light sparring sessions happen 90% of the times, I just don't post as much of them!

Both are necessary. People who only only swear by light sparring (usually bring up "the thais") have simply never fight or never trained for a fight (and there is nothing wrong with that). You need to experience the pain, the fear, the intensity, getting drained while getting hurt, feeling like you are drowning, hitting as hard as possible, all of that over multiple rounds, to be ready for a fight. At first I was only doing light technical sparring and I thought I was the shit until I did hard sparring. Then I realized what's up. But yeah people who only spar hard will never improve. You need both.

Light sparring makes me giggle because of all the funny shit that's said during it 😂

Hard sparring is good for the mindset and grit. Technical sparring is what sharpens your tools. Nothin like pain for a teacher. You won’t drop ur hands if u get clobbered one time.

My only issue with hard sparring, is when it isn’t agreed upon. When someone gets their ego hurt and decides to hurt your body to match, then it’s just a bad look that ends in a bad way.

Thanks for putting this out. People need to know that they do not have to go through wars everyday to get better.

You are the one who showed us how good the light sparring is.
I got many inspiration from you and I learnt a lot from you and still learning from u.

You are a great fighter and great coach, Jeff.
Don't give a d*** to those who comment the s**t.
You are a humble great fighter...

yOu OnlY SpaR HArD jEff O.o lol

gotta love the quality of "researcher" and "deductive reasoning" most people have on the internet.

Keep doing what you've been doing bro, its great. You post everything, the good, the bad, the ugly lol.

I've learned much, along with so many others, from you. Hope you dont let the trolls and troglodytes get you down.

Peak performance is when you escalate to hard sparring and both end up in light sparring because they realize someone would get hurt otherwise. Bodhidharma-level or Lao Zi-level self-awareness.

Glad somebody said it.... Sparring and fighting are different... Hard sparring to me is just a fight... Technical is the way to go

The fact that you can take a body shot like the first clip and smile it off, respect man

It's good to do the hard sparring, too, with people you trust who look out for you.

Absolutely. I’ve been touched pretty good in sparring before, but it’s always just mostly been a lot of moving and not a lot of landing, and the hits that you set up and land are much more rewarding!

That low kick, cross, low kick combo is sick! Damn I miss sparring… I will try it one day.
