Hearing Range
Not all sound waves are audible (can be heard). The human ear can hear sounds that have a frequency between 20 Hz and 20 kHz. The hearing range is not the same for everyone and tends to get smaller over time.
Infrasound
Sound with frequencies too low to be audible (infrasonic frequencies) is called infrasound. These waves can be felt, and can sometimes cause organs in the body (like the spleen or stomach) to vibrate.
Ultrasound
Sound with frequencies too high to be audible (ultrasonic frequencies) is called ultrasound. These waves are used for medical imaging, sonar (sound navigation and ranging), and dog whistles.
