As someone who works for Toyota, I completely back them up 100%. As American's we love options!! And I'm glad that Toyota is not succumbing to the pressures of going 100% electric! I hope they stay strong and keep doing what they do best, making great, reliable, long-lasting vehicles!

Sounds like Toyota is keeping its options open, and listening to consumers, rather than blindly following a political agenda.

Toyoda can think for himself: combine that with the balls to stand up, and suddenly, he's deemed "dangerous."

I actually agree with Mr. Toyoda. With the same amount of lithium battery, you can build 1 BEV or 10+ plug-in hybrids. And for most people, their plug-iin hybrid can run on full EV mode 90%+ of the time. And no range anxiety or long charging breaks on long trips.

Bravo to Toyota for keeping a more level headed approach to EV.

Living in Japan, I have a different perspective that wasn't considered in your presentation and may also have much to do with Toyota's hesitance to go all electric. The vast majority of people in Japan live in the cities and most of them live in apartments with parking provided by their apartment and no way or plans to provide electric outlets for overnight charging which is the most common way to charge your car preparing for the next day. Most apartment complexes are controlled by a board of residents made up of people with time which consist of older people who are conservative in their opinions and slow to move into expensive technology such as charging stations in the community parking areas. If they do create charging stations, it will be only a few from what I've seen 2 or 3 places for a couple hundred cars.
Japanese always look in before looking abroad and isn't going to create a bunch of vehicles that Japanese people have little interest in. That is why hybrid vehicles are so popular in Japan. Hybrid depends on gasoline to charge the batteries.

I have met very few people who want an all electric car. A good hybrid seems like the best option on nearly all levels

Toyota isn't falling behind on EV R&D from what I've seen (quite the opposite - it has been a key research area within the company for at least a decade). They're merely taking the practical approach of "we won't stop producing goods that still have a clear market demand."

I think this is a wise decision by Toyota. You never wanna put all your eggs in one basket.

I've been a Toyota owner since 1988, and am very glad that Toyota isn't giving in to all the nonsense. 🍁

I think he's a genius. People do not want eV's. We're tired of having them forced on us.

Back in the 90's I worked at Hewlett-Packard as a electronic technician, HP was known for it's diversification. Then corporate decided to sell off everything and just go all computer, this decimated the company and it never has recovered from what it used to be. Not everyone is completely sold on electric cars some of us Old School folk still love the smell of fuel and it's performance. It's better to be cautious then compulsive, patience always pays off. Peace

Driving to Alaska in electric car good luck finding a charging station. Good luck with your battery at -40f.

I still think Hybrids are very useful. In particular plug in models. You have two choices of movement. If you can't find a charge point your not stuck and you can go on a cross country road trip easily. Each to their own.

Toyota already has eggs in every basket and in baskets others havent even thought of. They are of the few with the guts think for themselves, proven during decades of development, marking trends and not failing into the latest fads and trends. We are very fortunate to have their wonderful machines and services among us.

When it comes to the future of the car industry, I have more faith in Toyota than green politicians.

Toyota has been #1 for me, most of my life. I worked at Toyota (manufacturing plant in Ontario) and they not only take pride in how they make and design their vehicles, they also take amazing care of each of their employees.

A true stand up company. Whereas Ford and GM shut plants down, letting their staff come to work with a barricaded front door. Oops!!! 😑
