The most common types of stuttering are repetitions, prolongations, and blocks. Facial or body movements, called secondary behaviors, can accompany stuttering as well. This video describes the three types and possible accompanying behaviors.

I know someone who repeats phrases. I realize he does it most when I’m around. I’m happy to be his mentor.

Ive never been diagnosed with any speech impediment but I have noticed during my adult hood, talking to strangers I find myself stuttering. I don’t think it’s actually a speech impediment but more of a nervous response

Thanks for the video! I’m trying to write a character that stutters, so this is really helpful. One question, is it possible for people to have 2 or all 3 types of stutters? Like for example, someone who stutters usually repetitions and blocks while stuttering.

i have mostly prolongation especially on st words like "state" or "street" and i usually like swipe my left hand across my face from up to down and it for some reason helps me get it out

When i was a child i struggled with repetitions. Now its just the occasional prolongations and blocks. Tbh most times i choose to stay silent because of the fear of the prolongations coming out when i least except it. When you see most people around you speak so fluently without any difficulties in their speech, it makes some people like me more quite.

I went to a speech therapist when I was a little kid for a lisp and stuttering, and I still have a stutter all these years later 😅 it's definitely not as pronounced as it used to be but of course I still notice it

I think i have the last 2 ones, along with secondary behaviors like avoiding eye contact and changing vocal pitch… my family bugs me about it all the time 😅

What does it mean when i fall over my words and make a strange sound in the middle of words?

Is it still stuttering if instead of repeating the first sound/syllable of a word, you repeat the whole word? Like in a sentence, "The red white fox that that that jumped over the fence."
