I love how Valjean starts out with this appeal to Javert's morality, and when that doesn't work, switches to "listen, we both know I can kick your ass."

*AGGRESSIVELY TRIES TO SING BOTH PARTS SIMULTANEOUSLY*

Philip Quast went low with "cha-ain"
Colm Wilkenson went high with "ru-un"
I just love how they contrast each other. Perfect actors for the roles indeed

I love how Javert starts out impersonal and authoritative, like he wants to be, but gets progressively more intense and raw, and after 'I am from the gutter too!' he kind of steps back, seemingly shocked that he actually revealed that part of his past. Makes him very vulnerable and human. Water from the rock. That's how I always interpreted that moment. Fantastic acting from Quast

"You wear a different Cha-ain"
"My race is not yet Ru-un"

Those two lines were sung so well i had a hard time actually finishing the video

I love the duality of the "I will be there". From Valjean, it's a promise. From Javert, it's a threat.

How can anyone ever say Quast is not the greatest Javert ever... Everything about him is so perfect. He is so sinister with every word he sings. That evil stare, and the pronunciation of "you must think me mad." Chills every time. He is the greatest PERIOD!

One of the biggest “oh shit” moments in musical history. Fantine has just died leaving her young daughter behind with Valjean (who just confessed who he was to save another mans life) and out of no where just hearing “Valjean at last...” you know some shits about to go down

Love how low Javert sings the word chain. Sinister.

This plays in my head whenever I have a big argument with someone.

Im convinced the little shudder the camera does when he sings ‘a man such as you’ is due to the actual building shaking from the sheer vocal ferocity

Phillip Quast is by far the best Javert ever. His voice is pure perfection.

As goofy as this may sound, I listen to this before I go into an important meeting, interview or negotiation. The spirit backing these two actors runs to my core and has a life or death undertone. These two take it all the way. I absolutely love it. So pure strong and motivating at times when your nerves show their faces and have to be put to rest.

One of, if not the most, badass songs in the whole play.

I did this song for a school project, we had to perform a duet but I didn't have a partner so I recorded myself singing Valjean's part and then sang Javert's part over top of it in class.

Best Confrontation in the History of Les Mis. I mean you have Colm who is the best Valjean by a country mile and Philip Quast who is the best Javert EVER, PERFECT.

Philip Quast is my favorite Javert BY FAR. I've yet to find an actor who plays the role better than he did.
