Finally checking out the latest update to the Dygma Raise. It was a great product when it first arrived some months back but so many keyboard reviews meant I never really had time to learn the board. Now its back with some improvements and user experience is seriously impressive.

I had no idea I was buying a really expensive keyboard today but... here we are.

I feel like splits are the future for gamers, have one side for when your gaming, the other side for normal use

Yo Brian looks awesome but that price is tough. Not saying it isnt worth just a little to expensive for me.

Oh no... Brian found Split Key's... who want to take bets before he reviews his first Ortholinear?

I've been using ergonomic keyboards since the mid 90s, and I have looked at several (and bought a few) during quarantine. I have some thoughts to share.

The best ergo keyboard ever made was the Datadesk SmartBoard. I will die on that hill. Alps SKCM black switches; ortholinear key layout with slightly wider pinkie keys; 1800 compact layout; tented; negative tilt; attached wrist rest. The biggest adjustment I had using it was the repositioned = key, which they put at the top left. Sadly, they are no longer made, and I have yet to find anything like it. I hope mine never dies (which is why I keep a spare in my closet).

I bought an X-Bows but had a hard time adapting to it. Its keys fan out as they move away from the home row, but since the (alpha and most of the number) keys are all the same width, the gap between the keys increases as they fan out. I also did not like the aggressive shift on the pinky columns (Q, A, Z, P, semicolon), and I found myself missing keystrokes.

I bought an ErgoDox EZ Glow, and I built a Keebio Iris. I like them both and had no trouble adjusting to them. The ErgoDox is quite thick, though, and the Wing wrist rests do not tent. They just sit flat on your desk. This is my biggest problem with the ErgoDox EZ. However, I much prefer the 1.5u pinkie keys on the ErgoDox EZ over the 1u pinkie keys on the Iris. On the other hand, pretty much any ortholinear keycap set fits my Iris.

A tented keyboard needs an attached wrist rest that matches the angle of the keyboard. The Matias Ergo Pro, Kinesis Freestyle Edge RGB, and Ultimate Hacking Keyboard do it. The Moonlander has a solution. The Dygma Raise looks like it is a solid product with nice aesthetics and a familiar layout. The bottom row looks better than the two buttons in the UHK's bottom frame. Dygma just announced a tenting kit on their channel yesterday, so hopefully that will come out soon.

I just love your reviews. 0 cringe, great insight, beautiful editing and great tunes. I don't have any interest in this product, but I loved watching it anyways!

Logitech could learn a thing or 8 with this

my Raise is my prized possession, I'm in love with this board. The 8 bar is nasty. I can't emphasize how incredible having crouch, jump, sprint, etc at your thumb is for mobility. And when typing for extended periods, being able to lean back in my chair with the keys inches away from my armrests is a godsend for carpal tunnel. It's an incredibly comfortable board to use. Only issue is the price; so if you have problems learning touch-typing, don't value ergonomics, or don't see yourself getting creative with the 8bar and layouts it probably aint for you (which the Dygma CEO goes out of his way to express, a stand up move imo). Or if you're just trying to ball out, get it. Def a head turner.

Have been waiting for this review for a veeeery long time (seems like the v1 showed up on your videos ages ago)! Very intriguing board indeed... Dygma seems to get so many things right with this current version!! And, of course, a stellar review as we have come to expect from Mr. BadSeed!!!

Dude Let’s Go, I have been loving my v1 Raise for the past couple months. It has been the best keyboard I’ve ever used.

(Love all of your videos btw) FYI Brian, that is just a split 65 layout, not ortho. Not hating, just wanted to make sure :)

Over the summer, I knew I wanted to get a split keyboard and so I looked into it a lot of options. After a while I decided to go with the Dygma for many of the reasons you have said in the video. The Dygma team is fantastic. They are super active on their own subreddit and are always so kind to work with. I recently just broke a component on my PCB because I was forcing in my Kailh box switches in and it actually broke the hotswap component. After sending an email to their support team they gave me the option to buy a new PCB since breaking the PCB voids the warranty. Additionally they even offered the option of me sending them my Raise and doing the replacement themselves ( no additional costs, just pay more shipping). This is incredibly nice of them and I think it really shows that they are out here doing their best to make sure the customer is happy with their products.

As for the raise itslef, its my new daily driver. I love using it. I added a slight tilt to the back because I personally prefer having a higher typing angle. The only other part that I am not too big a fan of is the fact that you have to leave both sides plugged in even if you only use one. It does work with only one plugged in, but if you unplug one half for too long then when you try to plug it back in, it will not work. Then you have to unplug and replug in the whole neuron to make it work again. Its a minor detail, but since I have limited space it would have been nicer to unplug the left side and put it away rather than just putting it away for a bit

TLDR: Love this keyboard, its really fantastic. Dygma is a really great company that really cares about their customers and they do their best to ensure the best experience

I have the v1 version from the Kickstarter and haven't looked back since. I did have an issue that developed after a few weeks and their customer service was amazing.

I had an issue where the 5 key on the left side started to not respond, I contacted Dygma and they offered me a few options. They were out of stock at the time of contact for full boards, so I could:
1. Wait for them to get more stock in and send it back then for a full replacement.
2. They could send me out a spare left side PCB that I could replace myself. They gave me a written description of what I would need to do and even offered to guide me through it via video chat, although the process was as simple as removing a few screws and watching out for a ribbon cable.

I took option 2 and had my board fully functioning in less than 5 days.

The board overall has been amazing for me. It's fixed my bad typing skills (I also would often use B and Y with the opposite hands - this was fixed within 10 days of using it as my daily driver).

I also have mine split especially far apart with a 3rd party longer USB C - USB C cable. I have the left side on the left of my 900x400mm mouse mat and the right side off of the mat entirely to give myself a huge amount of mouse space as I predominantly use it for FPS games. I can't wait to try the tilting system they're working on and honestly can't see myself ever using another keyboard (unless they bring out a version with F keys, as I do still miss having dedicated keys for functions).

How did you find the palm rests, wondering if they slip around or adhere well? I remember seeing it lifting on some others boards.

Board is good value imo, only one on the market that I am aware of that does not require two cables between the units and given it’s a niche within a niche you have to pay if it ticks your boxes

LOOVE my Raise. Its a gen 2. I just unplug the right side altogether when I'm gaming. Having 4 buttons under the thumb is a life-saver, adds so much functionality. Here is an interesting thing: I use the bottom two buttons as left and right, the upper left thumb button as up, and caps lock as down. This is actually super useful, to be able to navigate text and code using only my left hand MID-TYPING, rather than take my hands off the keyboard and operate the mouse. Feels a bit awkward at first, but once you get the hang of it, its super nice. Also I just never use capslock, so had no problem rebinding it.

In addition, pretty much all games recognize the arrow keys as bindable keys, so I can bind things like "armor plate" in Warzone, or "ping", and I can cover all game actions using only the one side of the keyboard. The only negative I've experienced so far is sometimes when I unplug just the right side, the board freezes and becomes unresponsive, until I unplug the center link thing. Overall though, I have been very happy with it. Typing with my arms spread feels much more natural and easy on my back muscles than typing with my hands so close together too.
