I knew a dude in welding school who tried to fire up a torch with the acetylene at 20 psi. After that we called him dynamite and his acetylene privileges were revoked

I love how nobody explains that u open the oxygen tank all the way and the acetylene bottle only 1 turn. And the lower oxygen valve on the torch gets opened all the way or u won't have anything when u adjust the mixing valve

I usually run at 8/40 for most general applications, but I guess it all depends on your tip and material thickness.

An actual useful tip here,
unlike the nonsense I’ve been seeing elsewhere on the internets haha
Nice work! 👍

I got certified as a Diesel mechanic in high school back in 1989. My 1st job was at Atlantic wood they made those green telephone poles. The guy that hired me was the plant manager. He was a criminal engineer. So on my 1st day I met my real boss the shop Forman. A little skinny man couldn't have been 5ft 7 on his best day but his beard was 2ft at a minimum. I said hi he cut me off and said what rod do you use on 1in steel? Hell I don't have a clue I'm not a welder. His response was you can't be a heavy equipment mechanic and not know how to fix a machine.
That man made me start from step 1 and show I can do it the way he wants it done before going to step 2. In 5 years I was Cat, kawasaki, and Liebherr certified. At times I hated that man but I didn't understand what he was doing for me. He gave me millions of dollars worth of knowledge.

Work in a steel mill, we would burn coils and ran 20/100 natural gas and OXY

A clean tip at 7 & 40 will pick a quarter up off the floor

That was a nice striker, legends say it was never seen again after the video…

I've found 3psi/18psi works well for cutting up to 3/8" steel with a smaller than #1 tip.

You want to have a neutral flame with the cutting ox on.

Are blowbacks very important to install on your tanks

Instructors always teached me:
Open oxygen first, then acetylene, ignite and regulate (it's loud alright, but supposedly safer that way)
Close acetylene first to shut off, then close oxygen (if you stumble for whatever reason with your torch, if you close acetylene first you at least have only oxygen left, not filling the room with explosive gas)

Gas axe ? It's a scalpel in the right hands. Anyone who needs a guide ain't that guy.

Like smoke feathered ends on the flame.
JIW for a long time i never went over 40# on the oxygen. 2 inch baseplates no problem
