I've tried teaching this to my son. To vocalize this statement, " Give me a moment to process what you just said"
Doing that he is setting his own boundaries to take longer to think. In turn giving the social politeness to the person speaking.

My husband is autistic. He always talks over me I have now learned just to say calmly but firmly that I am talking right now and when I am finished then he can talk. But at first I used to think that he was just rude and it would really upset me

One of the biggest things I struggle with in social situations (especially if I'm at someone's house) is when to leave. I don't go out and about very often so when I do I always end up stressed out thinking "Am I being rude if I leave now? Is it too early??" vs. having no idea when someone is either wanting me to leave or if it's getting too late or whatever. I finally told my aunt to tell me when it's time go, that I won't be offended at all. I definitely prefer that to when people are subtly hinting that they're tired and I'm not catching that they mean they want me to leave so they can go to sleep. People can be tired without it meaning that they're ready to go to sleep.

I struggle with this all the time if I don't take my medicines to keep me calm. It's so embarrassing.

I’m extremely socially awkward 😢 I want friends but sometimes I take jokes too literally, I never know what to say, or when to speak…

I myself used to/sometimes struggle with my adhd and what they now call “neurodiversity” (whatever that means lol). What helped me is psychedelic medicine, a reworking and rewiring of the brains pathways. Creating new pathways that aid me and destroying old ones that restricted me. I don’t condone nor advocate self medication, this information is not to be taken lightly. But that being said, I don’t know a person who has done psychedelics properly and come out worse than they started, so take what you will from this.
