One of the most common questions that I get asked is... How long does it take to prepare for the Cambridge English exams? Whether it's the B2 First (FCE), C1 Advanced (CAE) or C2 Proficiency, before students start the preparation process they like to have an idea of how long it takes.

There is no simple answer to this question but in this video I try to help you get an idea by looking at the different factors which influence how long the preparation process takes for each Cambridge English exam student.

Watch these next...

Enjoy the journey!🕺

Hello, Ben! I have just received the results of my English test and I got the C1 level! I didn't take the CAE but the Linguaskill Test. I just wanted to thank you because I've found your videos really really useful (I even got one word that you mentioned in one of your advanced vocabulary videos!). Now I'm looking forward to take the C2 Proficiency exam but I want to make sure that I'm fully prepared first. So again, thank you so much for helping us!

Got it, I'm watching this in Barcelona so that means I don't have to prepare. Such a big relief, thanks!

I find that prepartation time depends a lot on your studying techniques. There are some people who thrive on last-minute studying while others need more to time to learn things. I am among the latter. As I see it, CPE is a long-distance race (some people have already started without even knowing that the exam is one their destinations).

I am relieved, Ben! I just started 10 days ago. Although I came to your Telegram group a couple of months ago, after some days I quited it and postponed the exam for next year. But two weeks ago I pulled myself together and registered for the CAE exam on October, 16th. It's quite scary! I only have 6 weeks.... Cool shirt today. Thanks a lot for this video. Hugs.

"How long is a pice of string?" Good analogy, Ben. That is how everything in life works, whatever matter you are dealing with. If you want to succeed, you need to know where you are and where you want to go or what you want to achieve.+ Plus hard work+. Another great advise to thrive!! 🤗🤗

It depends on each person . Doing the practice tests gives you the idea where you at. Each skill is different as well. For me, listening is the most challenging. Thank you for the analogies.

I've never taken a Cambridge exam before or any English exam certification really. I took the CPE last month on a whim with 2 weeks of preparation (2h a day all by myself) . Fast forward i got my mark last week and let me tell u it was not bad at all.

Thank you for this comment! I absolutely agree with you. However, I wonder if you could suggest a method in order to make a significant progress in three to six months. Obviously, I’m aware that the word “significant” is vague and can have a different meaning for different people. But maybe you could still recommend how many hours one should spend on a daily basis practising the four main aspects, i.e., reading, writing, listening, and talking, besides repeating the grammar.

Kind regards,
Anna

I’m using a lot of materials the British Council provides you for free in order to prepare for my Cambridge exam. Do these exam types have a similar structure? Cause you would get a lot of tips on how to master each part and I was wondering if this is also how you should approach the CPE.

Hi Ben how much time a day or a week you would recommend to practice in those one or two months of preparation?
