Self-improvement, you know, that thing you hear about online where people go to the gym, start doing skincare, eating clean, meditating, and journaling? Funnily enough, after playing Valorant today, I have come to the conclusion that this is going to be the next step in my ranked journey.
But… How could this possibly help me rank up in Valorant? It sounds so stupid, and counter intuitive. If I want to get better at the game, shouldn’t I just aim-train, play more, and VOD review??
Hey, I’m korey, a 17 year old ascendant player with wild dreams of one day competing in valorant for a college team, or better yet, semi-professionally in tier 3 or tier 4 (if that even exists). However, there’s one small problem with these goals of mine: almost everyone in the competitive scene has either come from a foundation of thousands of hours on cs, or are incredibly talented at the game. I have none of those. I’m currently ascendant 2 and I have 1 year left to grind the game, and become one of the best players in the country. 1 year left to chase my dreams before I’m out of highschool, and thrown straight into the real world. I don’t have insane amounts of talent, and I don’t have the time to put in thousands of hours into the game. The only way that I can possibly close the gap between me and these competitive players is through efficiency.
And self-improvement will 10X my efficiency.
Your health has a direct correlation with your in-game performance, well, it does for me anyway. My scores in aim trainers literally change depending on the amount of sleep that I get. My best days, and best games have been days where I’ve been out of the house, exercising, staying hydrated, and well satiated.
On the contrary, in the games that I played today, I felt groggy, and had a lot of brain fog. I struggled with being patient with my teammates, and made a lot of stupid decisions because of a lack of focus. And this was a result of my many poor habits that I developed this summer . I talked about tilt in my last video, and today I realized just how big of an issue it really is to me.
Even right now, as I read the script out, my mind doesn’t feel clear. I feel like my brain is coated with molasses, and I’m just so slow in the head. I don’t feel snappy at all. Being healthy is incredibly important for any goal you might have, not just your rank in a dumb video game. People aren’t told to take care of themselves anymore, and it’s genuinely concerning. During this time last year, I was at the peak of my health, I remember my mind and body just felt so light. My reaction time was literally matching professional players, and it felt so good to be athletic, to be able to move my body the way I wanted it to move.
So there’s no better day to start again than today. July 29, 2024. In the next 7 days, these are the 3 habits that I want to focus on building, and I WILL update you guys in a future video, I promise.
Sleeping 8 hours a night, on a consistent schedule
Cardio daily (run at least 3 km a day)
Eat 4 meals, and stay hydrated
I don’t expect instant results, but I do know that in the long term, this will help me a lot in my journey. Almost everything you hear about online that’s related to self-improvement is scientifically proven to boost your reaction time, reflexes, decision making, and even the rate at which you learn. Think about sleep hygiene, a clean diet, consistent exercise, meditation, etc. These are not only healthy, but will make you better at valorant.
Anyways, this was just a little update video, I got like 3 hours of sleep last night and after bottom fragging a game on what I thought was my best map, ascent, I realized just how far gone I am from who I was last year. I know it’s a bit silly of a title, but it’s not even a lie. If you enjoyed this video and think you’d want to see more of me, like, comment, subscribe, you know what to do.
Take care of yourself, seriously
