Larry - Why doesn't FCP X display AVCHD footage as thumbnails in the Import Window? Footage is displayed as a list only.

Thank you for this. Just wanted to confirm than when importing 4k you only need to check the 'Create Proxy Media' box and leave 'Create Optimised Media' blank. After editing you switch to 'Optimised/Original' under the View menu & you will get a fully optimised file after exporting.

Also can I ask when importing an MP4 file, that was originally created in FCPX, back into the software - is it best to create optimised media or just leave as it is?

Hi Larry, is it okay to delete rendered files / transcoded media after the completing the project to save space for archiving? I use leave on place for media storage as well

Hi Larry, Question that I don't see answered around the internet. I am editing a 1080 project but because I am working by myself I shot interviews on wide in 4K. This is so I could zoom up to 200% and maintain the same 1080 quality when exporting. However, I have done this a few times now, and each time I am transcoding in both proxy and optimized media. It takes up an INSANE amount of storage. I was hoping that moving forward I want to only upload the original files and transcode to proxy only to save the space. My question, now.... If I do that, Will I be able to continue to zoom my 4K files into the 200%, and export it in 1080, and maintain the same quality? Or is not transcoding optimized files mean that I will lose the 1080p quality on my zoomed in clips when exporting?

Creating optimized media and copying files took up all the space on my laptop and I had 600GB out of 1TB available. 🤦🏽‍♂️😠
