Sainsbury’s budget food shop - save money on food in 2023

This week I’ve been to Sainsburys for our shop - by being savvy with what I got I’m pretty impressed with the price!

I grease the pan and add the pastry as it is. Then add filling and put more on top. It's been on our meal plan every week since. Kids love itxx

Great shop for the price at Sainsbury. I just add the pastry to the bottom as you would with shortcrust xx

Yes you can put puff on the base
I. Do it lots
Prick with fork, greaseproof paper and put another dish on top, cook in oven (it helps, it won’t be soggy also i havnt got the posh baking beans so I use what ever fits in but remember the greaseproof. Xxx

Hi Donna, I've loved watching you shop at sainsburys and you did really well keeping the costs down. I do keep saying to people you can keep the costs down there as they price match to Aldi, it's not as expensive as people think. I think you got some great stuff including all the meat for that price, I'm impressed! x

Hi Donna lovely shopping and meal plan I see Duke had to comeon and say hello he had to see what you was doing or rather talking too why don't you make your chicken pie with just a lid on top I bought a pie makerthe other week cos last fime I went the bakers for a pie for my dinner it cost over two pound and I hardly had any meat in the pie so rolled out pastry and cook my filling minced beef or beef or chicken and in no time I've got a couple of pies the rollout pastry is so handy I've got some pastry in freezer I got st Christmas il have to hse up domma sorry I can't help with the puff pastryjve onlyhsed it as a lid to a pie love fran xxx

as a basse with ready made puff prick it with a fork a few times it will turn out just fine to add the filling into it as a pie no need to use and fancy backers beans or that

The only thing that motivated me to shop at Sainsbury's was the fresh bakery and cake section. The cake counter was closed during 2020 and never reopened. They have also changed their policy re: bakery bread. When I shop on a Saturday now there is no freshly baked bread, nearly all items have exceeded the best before date but are not marked down in price.

I phoned customer services and they confirmed it is now a company policy to sell bread at full price even when it is well past it's best. They sent me a £10 gift voucher but I didn't want money just a return to a high quality product.

Hiya Donna, I'm a green pepper fan, especially in curry and chilli con carne, like the red ones for Chinese meals. As for your pie, Ive seen on the channel 'whats for tea' making pies using a shortcrust pastry bottom, puff pastry top, you might look on her channel to confirm if she bakes to shortcrust base first tfs Jax 💔

Look up Jamie Olivers puff pie, it uses less pastry so makes it go further but will give the boys a top and bottom of the pie! Xx

I buy that ham it’s gone up in price by pennies but it’s still nice and I buy the breaded ham also I buy the bacon also I’m sure it’s gone down in price to £1-12p! I love ❤️ your haul but these days you need to compare prices!!!!

Yesterday I did my food shop at Asda (I have shopped at Sainsbury's for ages now), thinking it might be cheaper, but was pretty shocked at what I got for £16. I think I'll stick with Sainsbury's.
