Claude Debussy (1862 – 1918)
Clair de lune (Suite Bergamasque, No. 3), L. 82/3 (1890-1905)
Nikolai Lugansky, 2020
From St. Petersburg Philharmonia

“Debussy for me represents France more than any other composer. I’ve always found the difference between Russian and French cultures quite interesting. French music also stands out from German music in form. Among the great German composers, for example in their sonata form, some elements are more important than the others - the main theme taking precedence over secondary themes, etc. In Russian music, we have life, birth, and death on full display. While listening to Debussy, each musical moment resembles a moment in life: we feel the sun, the rain, or the cloud, we watch fish swim, etc. Each moment is as important as another, without hierarchy - on the contrary, we perceive an intense admiration for each moment - a small miracle all in itself .... The music spoke to me and said that in very dark place we go there is always a light that guides us towards our destination

Oh ! so fantastic and beautiful Debussy it is ! veryvery graceful key board articulation and agogyk, intermission between each arpeggio, especially the passage work in the middle part is so frequent and natural. Occasionally I love to listen to Victor Borge with orchestra. I would feel his natural touch is also graceful. his sequence of 4 bars movement is so beautiful. (90-yrs.Japanese)sorry strange English.

I don't know if it's possible to better this interpretation and execution. This is a great piece that proves that being able to play the notes isn't even close to the story of really playing it.

It's one of the most "beautifullest" (taking this word from Lugansky himself) music I've heard. ❤ love this great pianist, Lugansky is already a legend to me.
