My New Years resolution, going back about 10 years ago, was to never make another New Years resolution and so far, I've stuck to it dutifully :)

The employment crisis has a few factors.
1. The pay scale. Our wages have not grown along with the inflation, leaving a lot of people unable to afford to work in a position they are qualified for.
2. Essential workers are moving jobs due to reasons such as mentioned above and due to unfavourable working conditions in the qualified field.
3. A lot of our labour is built up from migrant workers and due to the pandemic a lot moved back to their origin country or their work visas are messed up and with all the red tape makes it difficult to stay and thus having to leave the country even if their employer didn’t want them to go.
4. We are simply running out of skilled workers. There’s not a lot of emphasis on education for trade work. A lot of the funding for education focused around trade work had been defunded by the previous government making it difficult for people to chose a career path in such trades.

Fantastic to see you back, Phezz! I, for one, missed you!

Hey Phezz, good to see you back mate and yes Australia is part of the region. The region is now referred to as the Indo Pacific by those who inhabit it (a term coined by Japan's legendary and deeply respected PM Shinzo Abe) and it stretches from India around to the Pacific Islands, though not as far as Hawaii and from Australia in the south to China in the North.
Edit: Hell no India is not with China, they have border clashes and India is a key member of the Quad aimed at countering China. While America did nothing to help Australia during the trade war with China aside from scold them India took alot of what China has just banned thus giving our exports a new market. India has done more to counter China than the US has.

Australia is it’s own continent and it borders to the Asia pacific region.
So it’s in Australia’s sphere of influence.
Like north and South American continent’s border each other.

Phezz - you are 100% correct. We don't have a Labour/Skills Shortage. We never have. What we have is certain employer groups like Hospitality, Mining and Farming who want to drive down the cost of Labour in order to increase profits. Australian Workers have fought hard for the Rights and Protections they have in the Workplace right now. Employers know how well entrenched our Workplace Laws are so they pretend they can't find local workers and have to 'reluctantly' look for overseas 3rd world workers ... at a MUCH reduced pay rate and with none of the conditions we enjoy.

We have Farmers crying in the Papers that they can't get Aussies to do $150 000 a year fruit picking job ... yet rock up to any farm and they won't even let you in, or suddenly it's only $15 an hour ... what they really want is their exploited Filipino workers back, where they make them work 12 hours a day, 6 days a week for only $500 and then charge them $400 'rent and board' for living on the farm ...

I would say no re Australia. The shortage is lack of international backpackers and short term visa holders during covid.

China won’t go to war with Australia until they sort out their reliance on coal. The withholding of coal led to widespread power outages in china.

There is also a large spook base here in Oz called Pine Gap, this base has factored large when it comes to intelligence both comms and battlefield situation awareness in the middle east wars. It is not only mineral wealth but geological location as well that puts Oz in a strong position for the region.

Good to have you back.

Over time it’s becoming accepted we are part of south east Asia and traditionally part of Oceania.

Geographically Australia and the US are almost identical in size. There are a number of clips on YouTube that talk about this. Australia couldn't sustain the population of the US though.

Australia is part of the Asia Pacific Region, and part of SE Asia geographically, but possibly not culturally.

Spot on, sport. Australasia (Aus, NZ, New Guinea) isn't part of Asia or South Easts Asia but US and Aus are joined at the hip. CCP tried to intimidate Aus in 2020, it didn't work. CCP used the change of government as an excuse to re engage, winnie can't afford too much more freezing winters in Beijing, with Australian ships full of coals off shore. Whilst China can blockade Aus, give us a few Nuclear Subs and that's reversed. Be clear, Australia is a peace loving but alert, multicultural, fair, decent country, the best yet devised by humankind. No worries, AUKUS, toss in Canada and NZ, South Korea, Japan.
