I really wanted to try DIY'ing terrazzo style decor because it's something that I've been seeing everywhere lately. I love the look of this trend and think it's so fun. Today we are making 3 home decor items in the terrazzo style. This is a faux terrazzo technique using clay. Learn how I made a decorative fringe mirror, candle holder, and adorable trinket dish with a lid.

Katie! Using your straightener on yarn is such a smart idea, I'm embarrassed I didn't think of it myself when having the squiggly yarn problem 😂 great video. ❤

for anybody at home who wants to try this, as clay can get kind of expensive, it may be cheaper to go to thrift store and find some pretty colored plates that youd like. you can break them up and put them into your white base clay. But Katie, I LOVE how these turned out! And honestly, who wants to break up a bunch of plates if they dont have to??? hahaha I REALLY want to make that trinket dish. My mother in law gave me a huge bag of clay....like a lot of it is crayola brand though. But there are a few that are that brand you can buy in the craft section at walmart. I dont know anything about ceramics and clay modeling....wondering if you can bake even the crayola brand? Then i wouldnt need to go out and buy anything to make my own trinket dish...

*edit* so I googled it. For anyone else who might be wondering. To harden clay it needs to be a polymer clay. Apparently crayola brand clay is NOT polymer based clay. It has too many oils in it, so that it can be used over and over again. So make sure you buy polymer clay and not modeling clay. You could also get air dry clay, but I'd be worried that it would crack a little while drying?

Terrazzo Mosaic Artwork started during ancient Egyptian days....the Hebrew slaves would bring home the scraps from the massive monument works and they started making Mosaic Floors for their dwellings...someone like Cleopatra saw it and started using it in the Palaces! An accidental spill of goat's milk became the first sealer of Terrazzo!
