To all new to Baseball: Most of the game is played between the pitcher, catcher, and the opposing batter. The pitcher's specific skill is to make the ball difficult to hit. Major league pitchers throw many different types of pitches that move suddenly as they arrive near the batter. Learning that make each game more interesting. There's a psychology that goes into which pitches to throw and in what order.

This is gloriously well done. It covers basically every fundamental concept (and a few less common ones) in 3 minutes. I already know the game well, but this is one of the best examples I've seen of someone trying to explain it efficiently. If I tried, it would take me 30 minutes.

I've tried to show my German friend videos on the rules of baseball and by far this was the best video explaining the rules. You did it in a very structured and organized manner that was easy to follow. Thank you for the video!

[going through comments] I think the reason baseball confuses a lot of people is because the notorious (I didn't want to say "diehard") fans on twitter, facebook etc. don't give new fans a chance to learn the game.

I find they always expect you to magically know everything about every player on every team in history, and also know all there is to know about advanced statistics.

I'm an American who has been a fan my whole life, and yet I still find this video entertaining. Great job.

this sport looks so fun to play but as a British person I have no idea what's going on. 😂

I'll never understand Baseball rules, studying neuroanatomy from an old book written in both Latin and Russian is easier! I feel stupid

I'm American, and I'm taking my British step-son to his first baseball game in the US in a few weeks.  This video was quite helpful in teaching him the basics of the game I grew up loving... Thank you!

Great video. I've known (most of) the rules of baseball since I was a kid but the rule about "If the ball is caught from the air, all currently held bases become unsafe" confirmed for me a few moments where I've wondered why the players were out.

There are a few things that are wrong. Well, not wrong really, just incomplete.

1) A batter can only attempt to steal first base if the Catcher drops a pitch that would have been a 3rd strike.

2) You didn't really elaborate on the difference between thrown out and tagged out. A runner can only be thrown out on "forced runs, " meaning the runner HAS to run because there's a runner on the base behind him. If a runner is attempting a double or is stealing a base, touching the base isn't enough, the player himself has to be tagged.

3) You forgot to mention that if a fly ball is caught, not only is the batter out, but all runners that are off the bases have to retreat back to their original base or be thrown out. If they stand on the base until AFTER the ball is caught, however, they can then run and it's the same as stealing a base.

4) You didn't go into the Infield Fly Rule, but you can't really be expected to know how that works when half the umpires don't.

Hello Ninh - Thank you very much for a crisp and clear video... As a visitor to the mid-west US from India (a land of cricket), and hearing about the StLouis Cardinals vs Chicago Cubs today, wanted to look up something that explains the basic rules to be able to appreciate the game and all the buzz about it.... Your video helped me come up to speed on the basics. Thank you very much.

I love your explanations for NHL and MLB rules. One correction at 2:13 though is the batter can only run to first when the catcher misses a third strike (provided first base is not occupied or there are 2 outs and first is occupied) and not if the catcher misses any pitch.

A good first introduction for laymen to wrap their heads around. Condensed little video, bite-size, not too in-depth.
It' tough being a European baseball fan. But videos like this can help bring change.
Thank you
