Volkswagen Tiguan 2025 review: Does this next-gen family SUV leave the Mazda CX-5 in its rearview?

The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan is eagerly anticipated to say the least. The third-generation mid-size SUV is sure to be near the top of the shopping lists of family-car buyers and deservedly so given the undeniable success of the second-gen model. That said, will it live up to the hype? Well, it had better as the rivalling Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5 have long dominated its segment's sales charts.

It's no surprise, then, the next-gen Tiguan represents a massive step forward for the series. It ushers in a redesigned exterior and interior, with the former adopting VW's latest designed language, while the latter is clear in its technology focus – just check out those screens and that trick ambient lighting.

In this expert review, CarsGuide Senior Journalist Tom White travels to Europe to get behind the wheel of the new Tiguan ahead of its Australian launch. So, the question is, will it be worth waiting for? Watch on to find out.

Many Aussie reviewers have done many overseas test drives with the new generation Tiguan, but this model has yet to arrive on our shores.

I don't vibe with the massive screens like that, what's the functional benefit? It only really needs to show navigation (and sometimes not even that if the heads-up display is integrated) and your playlist. Seems like there would be too much light, especially at night. Surely 8-9 inches is as big as you'd ever need, with some good tactile controls for Aircon and audio. That's not even going into aesthetics, having the huge screen is such a boring look.

What is the obsession with Rav4. Toyota and Japanese brands are so bland 😵‍💫😵‍💫

Overpriced plastic…reliability issues as well, esp after 5 years. Front end boring…
