There are times when you might want to run windows 10 in safe mode to troubleshoot hardware issues, clean up possible infections, reset permissions and so on. There are a few different methods of getting into safe mode such as pressing Start - Power - Restart while pressing the shift key or using the msconfig utility. the method I prefer is to use the bcdedit (Boot Configuration Data Store Editor) utility.

very informative ! do you know why bcdedit description cmd will not keep after reboot, if done on a none windows boot? like a usb drive. i wanted to rename my usb boot tool. it allows me too and shows in the cmd prompt. after reboot it goes back. if i change in a program like visual bcd it sticks. but i assume they are doing threw loading bcd in registry.
