Bought a 150L in 2022. Got PPL in June of 2022. My plane is in excellent shape with a low time overhauled engine, IFR certification, WAAS GPS, secondary VFR GPS, glass DG & HSI, ADS-B in/out, blue tooth audio panel, and new interior & paint.

Here are the pros and cons I’ve experienced.

Pros:

— Easy to hand fly.
— Comfortable for shorter pilots like me (5’4”).
— 6.1 gallon/hour, which works out in long run to about 16 miles/gallon with avg. speed of 100 mph.
— The avionics allow for safe flying wIth redundant nav and traffic visualization. Fly thru bravos.
— Cheap parts & maintenance comparable to larger planes.
— Great hours builder.
— Easy plane to land, even in crosswinds.

Cons:

— Slow, which is why it’s a great hours builder. I average about 100 mph ground speed.
— No autopilot. No STC yet. No one that interested. You can get one for 172, but not 150.
— Short legs. Realistic endurance is 250 with safety margins. Less with passenger.
— Not a comfortable two person ride. I’m fine by myself though.
— Won’t carry much baggage.

It’s a great trainer and perfectly functional personal aircraft for a patient person who flies alone.

I own a 150H(1968). Her cost of ownership is the only way that I could fly on my budget. Excellent aircraft for time building. Couldn't imagine finding one for $15, 000 in 2023, though.

Just bought a C150J two days ago. Looking forward to flying it.

The early 150's also had fantastic 40 degree flaps, which were reduced to 30's in later years because of pilot negligence.

Going to look at 2 of these next week for possible purchase of both. These are great aircraft, both for training and for those short field high crosswinds strips we have all over northern Pennsylvania. Not much to them, so not a lot to go wrong. Easy to fly and very forgiving aircraft. I grew up flying turbo PA-28s and thought of these as toys, not "real aircraft" until I flew one. Really fun aircraft. I can easily get into small mountain strips that were very challenging in the 28s. Highly recommended if you just want pure flying fun.

The plane I did much of my initial "solo" flying 50 years ago was a 1974 Cessna 150 Commuter.
Was then a brand new plane. The dealer had just gotten it. And I was one of only a few "Students" that were allowed to rent and fly it.
Basically because they knew we would "keep it spotlessly clean" and not ding it up on landings!

I love this airplane. It is just right for going out and boring holes in the sky.

I bought a 1964 150 with very low times and excellent paint/interior/glass for only 16500.00 back in 2001.

15k bucks sounds a lot, what makes light aircraft so expensive compared to a car?

As of September 2023, that price range is not valid.

They don’t make them like they used to.
