How to Replace Task Manager with Windows 10 Process Explorer

So you replaced task manager with process explorer and now you want to put task manager back? well task manager never went anywhere and is still part of windows 10, we just need to delete a registry key to put task manager back as default.

To Restore the original task manager after replacing it with the Sysinternals process explorer, navigate to

and delete the Debugger key in that folder.

Thanks for the video. I tried the Process Explorer and since I am not a power user I was really better off with Task Mgr. Good to have it back.

Brian based on this tutorial i made 2 registry files

ENABLE Process Explorer As Task Manager:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\taskmgr.exe]

"Debugger"="\"PATH\""

DISABLE Process Explorer As Task Manager:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\taskmgr.exe]
"Debugger"="\"PATH\""

works fantastic
many thanks

Great post...always. I appreciate if you have any idea how to change the way to move the file (Software Distribution ) my son has a 32 GB laptop with a couple of updates is full. I tried with the USB create a file in the Disk Drive C but doesn't work.

can you put in a hash or semicolon in regedit so the command is ignored, to save retyping if you want to go back to process editor, is it possible to keep both on the machine with process editor having its own icon
