As the girl said, Earth didn't treat him very well and he still gave up his only chance to go home to save it. You can't find a better hero than that.

Say what you will about this movie, but this scene AND that stop motion monstrosity is awesome.

0:41 look at the change in the face from sad to angry, very nice! They did such a great job with the monster!

Probably the greatest animatronic live action alien duck movie ever made.

I love this movie but no one ever talks about the score.
It wouldn’t be the same without John Barry’s score. It’s a musical masterpiece !

At 1:22, when the Dark Overlord explodes, still one of the coolest special effects in any movie.

2:25. The ultimate heroic sacrifice. Saving Earth, but destroying your one chance to go back home. He may have been disliked by many, but at least there was one human who loved him: Beverly.

1:56 I always find this part a very hard and depressing moment.
Howard realizes that he has to make a very tough decision and do what he has to do.
Even when he says "goodbye, duck world", he's not just saying goodbye to his home planet, he's also saying goodbye to his family, his friends and his former life.

You gotta admit, this film had some pretty awesome effects.

Awesome monster effect. If I had seen this as a kid, it would have given me nightmares. But it's an impressive practical creature effect. Good old Phil Tippett!

Honestly, the Dark Overlord itself never freaked me out as a kid. No, what DID freak me out in this film was when Dr. Jennings was possessed by it, and shot that tentacle claw out of his mouth and charged himself through the cigarette lighter. That image, and the sound effects of that thing coming out of his throat, unnerved me.

I love this movie and Lea Thomson, an as an awful movie people say it is, you've got to admit, those visual effects are perfection.

This is why I like this version of Howard the Duck, because he cared so much for Beverly that even he would put his own life on the line by confronting an ancient long-forgotten evil being with almost supernatural-like power.

I hate that this movie has a reputation as a bad movie. I grew up loving this movie and for 30 years it's never wavered. It's a shame George Lucas considered it a failure, I'd shake his hand and thank him for creating a cult hit and a fond childhood memory.

I really don't understand why so much hate around this movie! Indeed, it failed the expectation at box offices, sometimes the script is corny and there are few moments I wouldn't hesitate to call weird and disturbing, however it succeeds in being entertaining, it's highly enjoable, hilarious, and yet the practical effects are pretty awesome! I'd say it's way better than todays crap which grosses at BO but really lacks of soul.
