Yes, black people were invited to perform on American Bandstand. We watched both.

For me as a teenager in the 70s. It was American Bandstand and Soul Train every Saturday. AND i still have some of my clothes from the 70s.

He is an icon. He could sing the phone book and make it sound good. Love your reaction.

Great reaction! Lou Rawls definitely belongs in the PDC! His smooth, buttery, creamy voice is mesmerizing.

Lou had the voice! This was a “come back” hit for his career that became his Biggest hit! Another great performance from him was his version of It Was A Very Good Year. The Frank Sinatra version was more popular, but Lou’s was fantastic.

This was way before Disco. I was 16 and Soul Music was still alive. American Band Stand been around since 1952 and had many popular black artist and even dance contest. And who doesn't like Dick Clark? But according to many black and white Soul Train was special and unbeatable in those dances without a thought of trying to be a black version. Don Cornelius RIP ♥

Great reaction to a great song. I listen to oldies stations and still haven't heard this one in years, it still holds up. Thanks for listening and sharing with us.

Lou Rawls sang back up on the Sam Cooke song, Bring It On Home To Me. He does the call-back on that song and back-ups, take a listen!

My mom always listened to Lou while I was growing up. When I hear him it brings back the good memories.

Soul Train was the biggest TV show in the world from 1970- 1980. Bandstand didn’t start having black people as dancers until the late 1960s. But Bandstand had black artists on since the 50s.

Beyond his voice, Rawls helped raise many millions for United Negro College Fund, hosting telethons for years. He (and Soul Train) one of many Chicago legends.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Rawls backstage in the late '70s. Believe me, he was just as cool and smooth shaking hands with a stammering 20-year-old. Class. 'nuff said.

This song was a big disco hit in 1976. He followed it up the next year with Lady Love. Two of his top selling singles.

Good lord, hearing this brings me right back to my childhood. Back in that day my parents and older siblings would listen to these songs. And it just brings me there.
