Should Christians listen to secular music? Some Christians would say Christians are free to listen to any kind of secular music they choose just as long as it doesn't "affect" them. Others would go as far as to say that under no circumstances should Christians listen to secular music. So, how do we find a balance? This video will provide 5 guidelines/questions to determine is listening to secular music is right for you.

This is gonna be so hard letting go of secular music. 😣 It's just always been what I turned to when I felt less than or alone. I know I should turn to Jesus instead but it's like secular music is an instant boost. I pray Lord Jesus may help me to let go.

I am glad you pointed out that not all secular music is harmful or unGodly. Infact, I do believe God can speak to us through anything He chooses.
"Christian" music is not always good for us. I have heard some things that are incorrect Biblically.
In the end, we shouldn't get legalistic, but we should also be wise and listen to the Spirit.

Years ago when my Christian friend said they didn’t listen to secular music, I thought they were crazy and extreme. Fast forward 7 years and after going on a hunt for new Christian music when I downloaded Spotify and listening to all the new music constantly.for what must have been months, I realised all my playlists were Christian and I didn’t know any of the songs in the charts haha. After feeling old and out of the loop I quickly ran to YouTube and went back to listen to the chart music and it fell flat, it all just felt completely empty and I was like wow, I’m now one of ‘those’ extreme Christians haha

Honestly, as a musician myself, I would say music is basically a way of expressing what you feel inside your heart - just as writing is for writers or painting for painters. I don't see the benefit of dividing music as secular or "gospel" music. Music is meant to express what is inside of you. So as a Christian, I'm sure you wouldn't say lust, or drug or alcohol is what is inside your heart. So don't listen to songs that promote that. Listen only to what resonates to you and to what is in your heart. To me, music is an expression of what is really inside of you.

I listen to secular music that is uplifting and that carries a good message and that promotes love and kindness.

I listen to both Christian and secular music. If secular music is essentially neutral I see no problem with it. God will convict us if we are engaging in behavior that is against His will and His desire for us.

For me personally I think that if you're totally serious in your relationship with God, the Christians shouldn't listen to anything that will hinder their relationship with God in anyway, I will say that if it's very positive and beneficial then you can listen to those types of music but any music that presents sin and ungodliness should not be listened

Me and my family do listen to secular music but it’s all positive, clean and encouraging. And me and the wife will often play some r&b during “date night” 🙂

"Is this music hindering my spiritual growth?" That one REALLY resonates with me. I am a zumba instructor and recently am convicted that some of the songs I have used for my classes are not at all consistent with my faith. Also I can tell that when I listen to secular music there are other areas in my life that I do not do as I know Christ would want me to. In other words listening to Christian music makes me want to be more Christ like in all areas of my life whereas if I listen to secular music it definitely does not have that effect. It makes me very lazy in my Christian walk. Thank you Jesus for leading me away from things that hinder my walk with you and I surrender EVERYTHING including what I listen to to YOUR will.

I think it's a maturity thing. I use to justify all school hip hop, but then a light switch was cut on by God using my friend, that's when I discovered my actions were contridactory, and I gave Christian Hip Hop a chance and it has been more edifying

Every music carries a spirit, no music is just normal or regular. Music has been seen used to cast out demons in the Bible. Music is so important that God had to put an arch angel (Lucifer) in charge of it. Music carries the spirit of the musician.
So we should take heed what and how we listen Mark 4:24
