I've found in my experiences, if I'm listening to a song that isn't honouring to God I will feel a strong conviction that I shouldn't be listening to it. So I just stop listening to it because if it isn't bringing me closer to God then Its not really worth listening to.

I totally agree with you. Discernment is key. As a parent I won’t tell my kids not to be with kids who are not Christian, I will teach them to discern who are good and bad influences. I think it is the same with music. Music is a gift from God, sadly other perverts it. Thanks for this video.

I don’t know but whenever I start listening to secular music I noticed a pattern that I always fall back to listening to all the old songs are used to listen to when I was living in the world so I don’t know I mean yes I still play songs that are secular but I am a lot more cautious and I really have to practice self control so I don’t fall back into the same old pattern

Christian music is music that glorifies God in a way that brings glory back to Him under the precept of His word.

Two factors:
1. the musical content
2. the lyrical content (both matters, regardless in which order)

I have a feeling inside that tells me or makes me feel like I shouldn’t be listening to certain songs

The more I grow closer to God, the more I want to keep listening to worship music. I don't have any desire to listen to secular music right now. Most of it is just meaningless trash. But i feel that anyone can listen to secular music as long as it's clean.

I agree with you completely. The only "secular" music I really listen to is musical theatre. I listen to it because I can relate to A LOT of it. Most of it is good, but there are stil musicals which, although they have a great following, I choose to not listen to because of what certain songs talk about. For instance, in Book of Mormon there's a song where people literally say "F*** God" and it's terrible! I don't want to listen to something that will offend my Creator.

I measure music choices for myself and my children as:
-Where's your heart at/wrapped up in the endless wavering emotions in the world or wrapped up in Jesus?-this reflects in all of your choices, including the music we let into our thoughts.
-Use discernment and pay attention to lyrics. If you're really walking daily with the Lord and growing, maturing in your faith you will not want a lot of what's out there that "everyone loves".
-Don't listen just for the beat/tune. That's mindless listening and that can actually lead to spiritual drift.
-Keep Christian music a regular part of your daily music consumption. Make time to give God your love through your worship.

Totally agree. I break it down this way: 1. “Christian Music” can be either Worship Music or Christian Topical Music (songs that mention God but are more about being joyful, appreciating success, a love song about your wife/husband, etc.), and 2. “Christian-Friendly Music” is music that doesn’t mention God, is sung by secular artists, but that is still lovely, honorable, etc.

This really is a gift from God, I was asked by another girl on a video to try to only listen to Christian music for a month, and I decided to do 2 weeks and I keep wondering if this will be worth it or not and stuff like that, thank you so much 🙏

It was my personal choice not to listen to secular music and I don’t regret it at all! It has really helped to improve my mental health, I found myself always going to secular music as a horrible comforter, it just drove me deeper into a hole of despair! So for me yes! I will stay away from it!

One of the drummers at my church put some really good input on this: he said that Christian music is not for entertainment, it's for worshipping God. Secular music is for entertainment. You have to be cautious about what you listen to/play along with (if you're a musician), but Christian music and Christian movies are not necessarily meant for entertainment. You just have to be wary of what secular music is entertaining you

I still listen to secular music but I also have Christian music and when I listen to secular music I try not to let it control my actions/habits I don’t let it influence me or I try not to let it to I’m slowly moving it out :3

Favorite Christian song is Carolus Rex by Sabaton:

Proved in battle
Led my men to victory
No man alive or dead commands me
I answer to the Lord

My take on this is that it is fine to listen to secular music, but don't let it influence you, cause you to stumble, or change your worldview. For me personally, I mostly listen to classical music, but when I listen to pop, I listen to artists that were popular around the 1980 to 2016 (Michael Jackson, Maroon 5, etc). If it has excessive swearing in it, I usually look up the clean version so that just in case I sing the song, I won't swear/stumble. There is some music that I listen to that may not have the cleaniest themes in it, but I don't let it change my worldview or influence me. Of course, you should stay away from songs that have heavy sinful content. I do that personally.

Basically, I think it's fine to listen to secular music, as long as it isn't over the top filled with sinful things, it would be a better option to go for the clean versions of songs, don't let it change your worldview, don't let it influence you, and if you feel convicted, throw it away. That's my take on it.

This was a well balance video. The best one I've seen so far on secular music. Keep me in your prayers.

Its hard to find secular song that doesnt talk about bad things but i know theres still a lot of good songs out there . My genre of music change, back then im into trap, hiphop, some of it talk about drugs, suicide etc. I dont care back then unless the beat is catchy, now i becareful on every song i listen to, the vibe, the lyrics, i check all of them and i found out its hard to find those kind of songs .
