A quote by Robert Duvall playing Hub in Secondhand Lions

"Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good; that honor, courage, and virtue mean everything; that power and money, money and power mean nothing; that good always triumphs over evil; and I want you to remember this, that love... true love never dies. You remember that, boy. You remember that. Doesn't matter if it's true or not. You see, a man should believe in those things, because those are the things worth believing in." — Robert Duvall playing Hub in Secondhand Lions

This scene, to me, really tells that good stories are valuable. Not everything needs to be, or even should be, dark and gritty all the time. We need hope.

Eloquently written, with an amazing cast of actors with great chemistry. I had both my sons watch this movie when they were young. They got lost in it, believing the words and story. Something 20 years later they remember vividly. How priceless ❤

These are messages every young man needs to hear. Not real, of course, just a movie but a boy like that with uncles like that...wow! What a priceless gift.

Showed this to my high school students when I was teaching in Japan. In this scene especially where he tells Hub he needs him to stick around and be his uncle, there was not a dry eye in the house. One of my favorite memories.

Powerful words from a great movie. The delivery by Mr. Duvall is right to the core....

Duvall delivered an incredible performance in this little movie.

A great and underrated movie. Tremendously well acted by two of the finest "old school" charismatic actors left from Hollywood's heyday. Robert Duval and Michael Caine were perfectly cast in this. This kid was great too.

I love this movie...and genuinely wish that we got the whole speech as this was a snip-it of the speech, and if just this bit was powerful, imagine the whole thing.

Just watched this with my grams last night. My grandpa used to CRACK UP watching this movie. He's passed & grams cracked up at every scene grandpa did... She usually doesn't like funny.

This was a great movie and it was a great set to be on. I worked almost the entire production.

“Second Hand Lions”. A strong favorite of mine, hands down. Ranks right along side Friendly Persuasion, 12 O’clock High, and The Cowboys.

I love how there’s no music in the background, gives the moment more weight. Less is more sometimes

Robert Duvall is a treasure that people just don’t see because of the characters he plays. Gus MacRae was an UNFORGETTABLE role that Duvall just never got the acclaim he deserved for making that character speak to us all. Hub is another one. Duvall never seems to get the credit he deserves because he doesn’t overplay them. They are extraordinary characters played by an extraordinary actor and they come across as someone any of us COULD be, but aren’t.
