Spot on! I’ve always maintained that Stephen King the “master of horror” has written more novels that can be classified as any genre OTHER than horror than he has actual horror.

Thank you for that great description of “horror”. I agree 100% and I often get falsely steered in the wrong direction with recommendations.

I'm pretty late to the party but I very much enjoyed your video. I'm old too, lol, and I agree with your definition of "horror." Some of my own favorite titles would be:

The Turn of the Screw (though it's novella, not a novel) by Henry James
Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin
Ghost Story by Peter Straub
Interview With the Vampire by Anne Rice
Let the Right One In by John Lingqvist
Blackwater by Michael McDowell

I like that you mention "The Other". Thomas Tryon is too often forgotten.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. It was refreshing to see a list that knew what it was about. Almost everyone lists Stephen King's "It" or "The Shining" or "Pet Semetary" — and all three do fit Old Guy's definition of horror — but "Salem's Lot" and "The Dead Zone" were plenty scary too, and deserve to be mentioned more often. Also, "The Dead Zone" takes on a gloomy, suffocating feeling as it progresses on its way to one of King's saddest, best-realized endings.

Just found your channel, you've given me food for thought and some good recommendations. So pleased you included The Dead Zone...doesn't get the recognition it deserves imo. It's a perfect story.

So this is your first video posted that caught my eye. It captivated me and because of it I have discovered new titles and a rebooted love of horror writing. My favourite genre.
Yours seem to be dystopian science fiction. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'd be fascinated to know.
I'm just about to complete the Adversary Cycle with Signalz and then Nightworld. I can't wait. Thank you old guy!
How's Tess by the way. Beautiful cat. Both and my fiancée love her. And your videos. They're very thought provoking and rather relaxing, in the same vein as a lord Attenborough nature documentary. High praise indeed. Your very good at what you do.
I'm on the autistic spectrum, so often it feels like I'm in my own horror world. Reading horror channels this and improves many matters. I picked up King very early.
I'd love to hear back from you again. I've become rather the avid fan and have saved all your vids in a seperate section on YouTube.
Looking forward to hearing back from you soon.
An avid young man and fan from across the pond.
