Cool facts. I was born in San Juan 1963. My father was there doing a medical Fellowship he's from Alabama. My mother had escaped Cuba in 1960. She is German/ English but her family had been in the Islands (Germans) for over 100 yrs. LoL I have literally 100s, maybe 1000s by now Cousins. In Dominican Republic. I don't know the majority of them anymore. They are Heinsens. Yrs ago traveling with my family we met a black fellow in a bar, with the last name Heinsen. He was my cousin somehow. It is a Small world After all!!. Will u be traveling to Habana Cuba ? Or Santa Domingo DR?. I'm following you & hope you will cover these countries in the future. I live in Florida since leaving PR 59 yrs ago. ❤

I grew up near the site of the oldest church. Near a museum for some of the early settlers of the Caparra colony. That’s a pretty awesome and historic area Caparra.

Last month was in Santo Domingo, DR. It was very strange seeing a gothic style church in North America (Basilica Cathedral of Santa María la Menor). Usually "old" on this side of the pond is either Mayan ruins or Colonial buildings.

Just a few comments. The oldest city inhabited today in America is Ciudad de Mexico, founded by mexicas around 1300 BC. The oldest european founded city is Santo Domingo, in Dominican Rep., founded in 1496, and there are some more cities in that country and another countries founded prior to San Juan, as Santiago de Cuba founded in 1521...

Its a COLONY.. just that it sounds "not politically correct" and is called "Unincorporated territory"

If you mean stateside United States proper, wouldn't St. Augustine, Florida count as the oldest post-European city?

It’s odd. We criticize the actions of those explorers and their conquests… then celebrate the towns they established.

It’s a beautiful place. I’d love to go there one day. So.. thank you colonialism? 😬

Second oldest city in the western world? What about Lisbon and Rome? That's just two I know are older.

Get your history straight. Jamestown is the 2nd oldest ... behind St Augustine.
