SHOWTIME Lakers Highlights

An hour of Showtime fastbreaks. This team ran the Western Conference in the 1980's, and a big reason why was their devotion to playing in the open court. Everyone from Magic to Mike McGee would make a mad dash to the opposing team's basket as soon as the ball was secured.

"Shot blocked by Kareem...picked up by Magic...over to Scott...back to Magic....over to Worthy...Slam dunk" It's music to my ears

I have never seen an NBA team who could do a fastbreak like the Legendary Showtime Lakers. They were so damn quick.

What people failed to understand about the Lakers of the 80's was the stamina they possessed. They work extremely hard to be in tip-top shape.

what the average fan or media person doesn't realize, is just how good the showtime Lakers were defensively . most of those beautiful transition baskets were the result of a committed approach that started on the other end of the court. but remember, defense and rebounds wins championships. even for the showtime Lakers.

The Laker greyhounds were a sight to behold. What was even funnier is watching out-of-shape teams give up by the third quarter while the Lakers looked fresh and composed.

Showtime was the best thing on TV in the 80's.

Magic Johnson was so unique.. He could score with the best of them when he had to, and he was a magnificent passer.

The spacing on their fast breaks was a thing of beauty. Add to that the players involved and you have the best fast break that has ever been seen. It was perfection.

What made their game outstanding wasn't so much how they scored, it was how they passed and how unselfish they were.

Watching a whole hour of this is like eating a wheelbarrow full of candy. Damn those guys were so smooth, the perfectly coordinated machine. Made the unbelievable look effortless. And so deep... even the guys off the bench were all famous. Kurt Rambis, baby! Superman!

*James Worthy is art in motion. Byron Scott to AC Green offensive sets on point. Late-70's/80's Lakers are the best thing that ever happened to basketball and if anyone's paying proper attention, possibly to humanity.*

The youngsters who believe today’s players can run circles around the older players should watch this video. Can you imagine how easily the 1980s Lakers Showtime teams can beat today’s teams given that defenses these days don’t do lockdown defense nor full court presses like they used to.
