Home Depot sells "post protectors", they're like a sock for the bottom of posts to protect them from rotting when placed in the ground.

😅I'm 61, we used to do that with tape measures when I was a kid.
We'd also try to see how far we could pull the tape out until it folded. You slowly pulled tape out holding the box pointing up.
Luckily our house had 12 foot ceilings.

Beautiful home, inside and out, what a lucky girl to be getting married at the home she helped to build, it’s just so amazing!!! 🇬🇧

Full concrete around and gravel in the hole for drainage of water. Better yet Concrete cardboard tube pillars with a post support placed in the concrete while it is wet and not set up.

I truly wonder if the siding would be installed at this time if not for the wedding, lol.
Your whole crew are motivated, so that’s nice. Been here since the beginning and the tents, “you’ve come along way pilgrim”!

I got 6'4" with a Stanley Lever Lock (my favorite tape measure), but I got 7'10" with a DeWalt which is a wider tape.

Tip for your posts: Pack the end of it with good exterior silicone to prevent water absorption. Put 3-4 inches of gravel in the bottom of your hole, even with concrete. Will greatly extend their life.
