People charged with DUI offenses are often worried about what's going to happen to their insurance rates. Your insurance rates are going to go up for a considerable period of time. But the other way a DUI affects insurance is that you're going to need to get something called an FR44. An FR stands for Financial Resources. You're going to get a certificate from your insurance company and it's going to be given to the DMV saying you have a certain minimum type of coverage that Florida requires you to have after being convicted of a DUI. If you stop paying your insurance, your insurance company is going to notify the DMV and the DMV is going to suspend your license immediately.
