Don't give up on the basic principle of justice; that is "an eye for an eye, and a life for a life". Instead, do something like making the prosecution harder, or making the defence easier. That's how you reduce the legal burden of the accused, and also that's how to reduce the false conviction rate, respectively. Using the "false conviction" as an excuse to abolish death sentence but never address the suffering of anyone that is currently indicted or possibly convicted is making no sense.
