Any tips and tricks for my first Saltwater tank, please let me know!

I kept a 125 gallon FOWLR tank for 15 years. I sold it when I retired from the USN and moved back home to Ky. I basically filtered it and treated it just like a freshwater system. No sump, no RO water, and no skimmer. I filtered it with an Eheim canister and a aquaclear 110 HOB. The saltwater folks will probably lose their minds over this...LOL! Enjoy your new adventure!

Well, you can’t beat the price. I know you’ll succeed at making the salt water tank a beautiful addition to your home.

The big clown fish is female and the small one is male . Mike the spike may eat some coral so check first . Nice setup

Very cool! You seem happy about the saltwater tank, and those little clowns are too cute! I've never been brave enough to try a saltwater tank, but I'm fortunate enough to enjoy my neighbor's when I take care of her cats some weekends. She has two little clowns, too. They're so entertaining. She also has a bloom of very small starfish type creatures. I asked her if she bought them and she said that, not unlike freshwater, you never know what you're going to get when you buy live anemones or coral. That's where those little starfish came from. They can't be 1/4" across right now. I am so amazed with her salty tank! So different from freshwater. Best of everything with your new tank! I know you'll do very well with it.

Good luck Mike. It can get quite expensive.

Congratulations! I kept a 55 gallon saltwater tank for over 10 years ...about 30 years ago. It was very complicated as I remember but very rewarding. Just don't let any problems get ahead of you. I like watching "Simply Aquariums" on YouTube. She is very clever and does a great job with her many tanks! Good luck and enjoy your new adventure!

You had me, thought I was going to listen to another rant lol! I had a small saltwater tank years ago, enjoyed it very much. Saltwater, if you are going to stick to mostly fish and a few hardy shrimps and inverts like that sea urchin is no big deal for an aquarist of your experience. My main problem was the heat in summer. Where I stay the water can get to 84, 86 for a short time. The tank didn't handle it well, livestock started dying. If I did it again I would make sure the tank is in a room with an aircon or get a chiller. You are probably in a much cooler climate. Another thing I would do differently is mix the seawater from RO water, not tap water. Helps to skip that "ugly phase" with diatom and cyanobacteria everywhere.

That is s very cool tank! I can't wait to see the future updates. When I started watching this, I said "Wow, everyone is dabbling in saltwater now" My hubby yelled "NO!"😂😂😂

Good luck with that salty tank!!! I dipped my toes into a saltwater tank last year, I had it for a while but it just wasn't my thing. Those corner tanks are BEAUTIES!!!! I'm jelly of the tank!

Congrats Mike. I loved my saltwater tanks back when I had them 30 yrs ago. Filtration was much different back then. Enjoy your new project. Good luck.

Kudos to you for taking the saltwater challenge. Not sure if someone has already mentioned but don’t forget to get yourself a saltwater refractometer so you can test your salinity levels as fish and corals need salinity to be around 1.025. Fish and corals can suffer and also die if it’s too high or low. If you don’t have lids, then you will lose water from evaporation and must do water top ups with RO water. Also try and add some more live rock which will add to your beneficial bacteria and make it more fun for your fish to enjoy hiding inside crevices and swimming through tunnels.

Hope you enjoy your new saltwater tank. I’m sure you’ll nail it and look forward to seeing it develop over the next few months

Clownfish are in the Damsel family, so you could add a few Figi Damsel’s. A sand sifting starfish or goby helps keep the sand clean. Also one hermit crab or snail per gallon is recommended for cleanup crew. Detritus and debris is bad (unlike guppies and plecos) a UV sterilizer like the big green killing machine 9watt would help kill pests in the water. And of course any coral or fish need quarantine.

If you add more decore to the front they should come up to hide instead of hiding in the back behind that coral
