Is Melted Snow Safe to Drink?

Millions of Texans are still under orders to boil water as the winter blast continues to take its toll. But if your pipes are frozen, is it safe to drink melted snow? Fourteen million people, many with homes flooded from burst pipes, have no clean water for drinking and cooking. Broken water mains and power blackouts have made the water supply undrinkable. Bottled water is being distributed, but residents of Houston, Austin and other cities are being told to boil water for up to three minutes. #InsideEdition

I was in Houston on vacation while this happened and all the electricity went out but luckily we had a chimney that ran on gas so we were warm. Also the next day a pipe broke and the garage of the home I was staying in was flooded with water. Luckily we got very lucky and we were able to fix it but many of the neighbors and schools were asking my uncle to fix their pipe. Today I am back home and safe in another state.

That depends on if the snow is made of water or something else . A Google search of what is in snow would shock people . Boiling will only concentrate heavy metals. One of the worst things found in snow is strontium and arsenic.

I don't know why they made this video because the people that need it don't have power or wifi so they don't know how to do it.

I remember reading about this in a book called, "A Meal in Winter Time". Three German soldiers had to do this in Poland in order to survive. It's almost unbelievable that Texans have to do the same!

The answer is yes. You do need to filter it and boil but yes.

Filter it with charcoal and sand, just to be double safe. Use coffee filters between the filter layers.
