Sound Deadening in my VW Transporter T6 Camper - Does it make a difference?

I have completed Stage 1 and 2 of my Sound Deadening and Insulation of my van using Dodomat products.

Firstly I stripped the van, removed the panels, clips and carpet. How do you remove glue residue? I have a few methods I used.

I warmed the panels using a heat gun when they were cold, to ensure better contact with the Butyl compound.

Using Dodomat Deadn Hex, I went for total coverage of roof, panels, floor and cab. I will be following this with exterior wheel arches and the engine bay. Total number of sheets used will be nearly 150.

I then used Dodomat Thermo Liner Pro 10mm on the roof and panels, the floor will follow later.

Stage 3 coming soon will include the Thermo Fleece and then carpet over the top.

Is sound deadening worth it? Has it made any difference?

Some ESSENTIAL items for you to have to keep safe in your van

-----------------------------------

Whether you have a T5, VW T5.1, T6, T6.1 or even an older T2, T2.5, T4, the VW Vanlife scene is amazing, with so much help and assistance available for whatever project you wish to attempt. Panel van, Kombi, Converted Camper or VW California Beach or Ocean, enjoy the freedom van life brings.

The @Staycation Lifestyle van conversion is coming along nicely.

I bought a VW Transporter T6 Kombi Highline van 140bhp diesel SWB with tailgate.

Slowly turning it into a camper van / day van with bed. I will also need something for cooking, cooling, sleeping, drinking ?? Choices to be made.

I have lots more to do though, I have a new electrical system, using Victron components and a Lithium LIFEPO4 battery, so I obviously need to install some power devices. I have a new sound system, with Focal speakers and ibus 2.1 amp, Playstation PS4, which will be removable, TV's on headrests.

Lots for me to look forward too and it would be nice to take you on the journey.

Please do let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions.
Vanlife for me is just beginning, it's a great adventure and I'm loving it. 😍

There are many great camper adventures to come

Thanks must go to the following:
Transporter HQ for my tailgate struts

Hi mate, good to see that you are doing the job well, skimping on Insulation and Sound deadening will not work in the long run, Be Well my Friend .

Good video pal, refreshing to not hear stupid music or any music in the background whilst you’re talking. I agree with you that it’s best to do it properly and this is how I stumbled across your vid, I’m using Dodo sound deadn hex mat, 6mm thermo pro then the fleece but the diall brand then I guess the no4 stage would be the panel/carpet, very expensive and time consuming however as you say it has to be done right👍
I too have learned the engine bay makes a difference so I will look into doing that also the doors and door card face with Dodo deadn - maybe overkill or even over weight as it’s quite a heavy product.

Good video, but why would u deaden the exterior wheel arches when u have done inside? Transporter HQ do exterior theirs instead of inside. That way it shows the inner arch shape off more when carpeting.

Which sound deadening did you use for the floor?

I honestly think it’s pointless argument - reliability much depends on how you look after a vehicle. Most transporter owners buy for the badge so tend to look after them better than a workman running it into the ground. All are built by a computer these days to the same tolerance so the ‘German quality’ thing went out with the 80’s (I did love my E30 Beema). VW’s holding their value is perpetuated by enthusiasts and rightly so - the scene is brilliant. That said, there are a lot of transporters I was looking at 6 months ago that haven’t shifted - especially the Calis at crazy prices. Fact is the only thing I was a bit sad about when I decided on a custom for my camper was that I would not be part of the VW community. I have just ordered an ID3 does that count? My custom does take my back to my boy racer days though where I always longed for an RS turbo! Heritage comes in many forms!

It doesn’t help having a black van, looks the dogs but boy do they attract the heat ! There’s a reason why most cars in the Middle East are white. Good job mate 👍🏻🇬🇧
