Exactly! it’s the same as people saying “i’m so ocd about…” you aren’t “so disorder”, you’re just experiencing human things.

Autism is like I missed a memo at birth on how to act and now ppl hate or mock me for it, that’s the best way I could ever explain how it’s like

I’ve seen people say “is IT acoustic” which is just another level of fucking crazy

As someone who is autistic it started as a joke in the autistic community but then other people started to use it as an insult completely ruining it it’s really disheartening that people think that being neurodivergent is a joke and not something that we struggle with. On a happy note I love your videos Kurtis keep it up!

I’m diagnosed autistic. I’d like to point out that most of these jokes started out as in-jokes in online neurodivergent communities. I don’t mind people saying things like that if they’re neurodivergent, but neurotypical people who don’t understand the joke have co-opted it and made it at best nonsensical and at worst outright ableist.

The "are you acoustic?" thing is so bad that when I was a teacher for a 7th grade a year ago, the kids _GENUINELY_ thought acoustic was just another word for autistic. It absolutely blew my mind

I‘m autistic and whenever someone asks me if I’m "acoustic" I respond with "No. Electric." And it usually gets them to back off.

As someone with autism people saying "everyone's a little autistic" drives me crazy. Like it totally downplays what i go through.

As an autistic person, THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS. It’s just blatant ableism, same with people saying “are they restarted?” - just a dumb way to make ableist language and slurs trendy again.

Acoustic is basically just a way for them to call us stupid and or weird and it hurts

Kurtis knows the difference between laughing with (insert marginalized group of people) versus laughing at them. THANK U for speaking up about this 🙏🏻

It feels like this is happening with a lot of terms on the internet. Autistic, narcissist, abuse, trauma, etc, people are watering down these terms by over using them, much like they used to do with OCD. It makes people who experience these topics/things more isolated because when they talk about their struggles, all of a sudden there’s people saying “oh yeah me to” and kinda burying their message and experiences, and then people get sick of hearing about that topic and start telling people “we’ll everyone has a little OCD/trauma/autism” and discounting those who truly suffer and this makes it hard for them to seek help.

My therapist said some experiences are universal. But when it impact your quality of life and your day to day life in general it is no longer a shared experience, and the burn out that comes from masking it.
That’s why I hate people saying everyone has adhd or autism. No.

The Internet is rampant with teenagers who haven't developed empathy yet, and middle-aged people who never will.

I’m autistic myself and it’s gotten to the point where when I try to explain my difficulties in communication, I usually hear “Stop making excuses.” Because people don’t believe us who actually have it.
