The Solvay Conference of 1927 was a momentous event in the field of physics. Held in Belgium, it brought together some of the greatest scientific minds of the time, including luminaries like Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Erwin Schrödinger, Paul Dirac, and Werner Heisenberg, among others. This gathering of 29 individuals included 17 Nobel Prize winners in physics.

The significance of the photo taken at the Solvay Conference lies in the exceptional concentration of brilliant minds and the groundbreaking discoveries made by these scientists. It captures a pivotal moment in the history of physics, where the discussions and interactions among these luminaries led to significant advancements in the understanding of quantum physics.

Notably, the photo includes Albert Einstein, one of the most renowned scientists in history, who made groundbreaking contributions to the theory of relativity. Marie Curie, the only woman present, is recognized not only for her pioneering work on radioactivity but also as the sole individual to have been awarded Nobel Prizes in two different scientific fields.

The Solvay Conference photo stands as a symbol of intellectual collaboration, capturing the essence of a gathering that unified the brightest minds in physics. It serves as a reminder of the incredible achievements and contributions made by these scientists, and the lasting impact their work has had on our understanding of the universe.

The fact they are all alive in the same time frame is actually insane to think about

The photographer definitely deserves a Nobel prize for getting all those people together in a frame

This is one of those moments that, if I had a time machine, I would go there just to hear the conversations that these legends had amongst themselves.

the fact that they are all in a photo together shows how recent all of this greatness was

Fun Fact: the entire group INSISTED that Albert Einstein sit in the middle of the picture frame because, in their minds, he was the crown jewel of the group.

In fact, Dirac, Heisenberg, and Schrodinger were all directly inspired by Einstein (Diracs Nobel Prize would have been impossible without Einstein's work), Einstein directly helped Schrodinger form the Schrodinger Wave Function (as Schrodinger acknowledged in his Nobel Prize speech), and Heisenberg cited in his book that Einstein's use of Machs Principle in the formulation of relativity was directly integral to Heisenberg's (and Born's) formulation of the Uncertainty Principle and Matrix Mechanics.

Einstein is the greatest scientist of all time. Only Newton is even in the same stratosphere and he surpassed Newton after 1915 when he published General Relativity, arguably the greatest scientific theory of all time (oh and Einstein predicted the Boson and invented statistical mechanics from scratch and invented Condensed Matter Physics from scratch in 1916/1917).

This photo was taken in Brussels, more specifically in Leopold Park. If you ever visit you can check the photo in the park as it is printed there too :)

Photographer: Please look at the Camera. Schrodinger: I'm looking and not looking at the same time. Just hit the shutter to make your observation and find out.

Not only was Marie Curie the first female Nobel prize winner and the first person to win it *twice*
She is the *only* person to have ever won the prize in two different fields!

Edit: I should have said two scientific fields (Curie won it for physics and chemistry)
