I have a very old mountcutter, about 40-50 years old, (with a wooden base board) which allows the user much more control of the precise length of the cut, because the blade is pulled towards the body rather than away from it, and thus the palm of the hand can then be lowered down against the slip mat to act as a brake.

Question for you: I just bought a very old (pre-Internet, as there's no website on the box) 301 mat cutter on FB Marketplace. The Bevel Cutting Head has a label on it that says 302. It's not spring loaded like the one you are demonstrating (1:48), the blade just slides down; in fact the blade doesn't need any pressure to slide down, it just slides down on it's own; there is a washer-type thing on the back, but it doesn't hold the blade up. Is this correct, or is there a problem? Was the 302 Cutting Head modified at some point so it's like the one you are showing here?

i cannot get the straight cutter to work at all! not sure what i am doing wrong.. i'm alittle unclear about exactly where the blade goes i know they say 45 degree angle ? but is the blade supposed to enter into the groove in the board? i had to use a heavy duty utility knife to cut thru the 4 ply mat board i bought. it was tough. also would like tips on cutting down a full sheet successfully

I bought one of these. Very easy to use but I found when cutting a window that the sliding guide was not 100% parallel with the cut line, probably only out by 1-2 mm but very annoying as the window was not exactly square to the mount.

I can't get the ruler to fit down into the groove so that I get a tight fit. What am I doing wrong?

Do you have pull cutter for the 301 com pact mat cutter. I have better control at pull than push.

bevel is inward....how do you use this to see the bevel after mounting? seems we need to have different marks on coor side and protection as we push cutter?

My Logan 301 is many years old.  There is slippage of both pieces of matt when I attempt to cut.  Is there a remedy or should I replace it?  Thank you  Sandra Delzell
