Advice for Self-Taught Designers

2 of the biggest things you'll have to figure out if you're going to succeed as a self-taught designer are:
1. how to build a network/circle of other designer colleagues
2. how to get (honest) feedback about your work so you can improve.

You can always find someone on one of online groups and criticize each other work, you will learn to do better design and to criticize :)

I think this is very valuable. Yes, you did not tell us how to solve the challenges but it’s really helpful to listen to someone describe them in detail. I’m not surprised to hear these things, but honestly they’re not the first things that come to mind. Your advice is always fresh, thoughtful, and helpful.

I'm kind of a self taught designer - I studied Architecture then pivoted to doing freelance work in a niche within graphic design. I can confirm that not having access to feedback is one of the biggest obstacles for my growth.

I'm doing design labs course online right now and they have a dope mentorship program where they give you feedback on projects/your work.

Before I dropped the design school, I was chatting with a teacher about charging 1k on projects internationally and she was like, "I only reach out to the neighborhood" is that really experience?

Why would I want "self-taught" advice from someone who received formal design training in school.

You will never know the true struggles and experience of self-teaching yourself something unless you actually self-teach yourself.

This advice isn't really that compelling either.
