man, I'm new to Blender and have been watching tutorials for some ideas. your videos are the ones that helped me understand blender because yours are really easy to follow and the terminology you use could be easily understood by Asian people like myself. congratulations!!!

Wow, I have been trying various methods of learning Blender lately, after having it sit in my computer for a year, take it out, look at it, put it back and I finally GET IT, thanks to you!

Thanks so much! I've been wanting to learn how to make 3d models, spent countless hrs searching and finally found this. Excellent work!

I agree with you 200% There have been a lot of time where I downloaded Blender and wanted to learn how to use it but always got so confused that I ended up not using it (I normally use Maya), but recently I found these tutorials and are incredible! I find myself liking Blender more than Maya.

@Alexa3D1 Clothes are coming in Part 3... there's some important points to go over before we get to clothing, which I'll be covering in Part 2, in which I'll make an animated shower curtain.

I started teaching it to youth 11 - 14, and there was a necessity to use a free solution (as opposed to a $3800 solution). It started to grow on me because of the fast development, the cost, and the awesome community, and I switched completely to it away from 3DS Max.

Yup, I believe I cover a simulated cloth flag being blown in the wind in my next tutorial, #21 - Cloth Part 2/3. =)

@CenarionCult yes, you can.. you could try upping the stiffness and bending values (into the 1000's), and making a vertex group that defines a more stiff area (eg: all but the edges, so the fabric can bend). Also, you can use soft bodies for probably a better result (do a search for 'blender soft body introduction' - a video with soft white innertubes)

Excellant tutorial!! BTW When your subdividing and adding in cuts, you do it twice but you dont need to. The slider limit is 10 but you can click and type in about any number you want ex. 30 to get a 30X30 plane. I know you did this on 2.61 so maybe that wasnt the case with that version but anyone on any version newer then that can just type it in.

Do you think you can make a video of how to work with fluid? I'd like to learn this from you because you're such a good teacher! ^_^

there are several ways to select multiple objects. The best way for beginners is to press 'b' for box-select, then click-and-drag a square around the objects you want to select.

If you model.. let's say.. a shirt for a character, you can model it without thickness, then use the 'solidify' modifier on it to give it thickness. Once you're happy with the thickness of the shirt, apply the modifier to make it permanent, and then you can add different textures to the inside/outside, or create seams and unwrap as you would any 3D model.

The W 'specials' menu as I use/describe it is always in edit mode. Press TAB with a mesh selected to toggle into edit mode, and the specials menu will have more items.

@bromber100 Yup, I'll cover that in Part 2 ;-)

IN 3DS Max Tesselation actually takes a mesh of even polygons and converts the polygons to randomly laid out triangles which don't together form squares. I believe they first used this modifier (or similar) when they make the characters' clothes in Pixar's The Incredibles.
