We have brown/black outs right now. To sustain EV's you're gonna have to build more coal fired power plants. DOH!

I’m happy for the environment, although I don’t think they’re as environmentally friendly as most people think. But I cannot get excited about any electric car, I think they’re so boring.

If we are going to completely rework our infrastructure to be able to use electric cars, I'd rather our infrastructure be reworked into high speed and regional rail infrastructure instead. Both are pretty expensive so doing either isn't something I'd want to do in general but if I had to choose between the two I'd choose rail infrastructure

The amount of people still trying to justify that EVs are superior is crazy. I Wonder how many people died just to make each battery pack. Is it 1 life per battery pack? Is it 2 batteries per life? Idk exactly, but it’s not zero. But people still sit on their high horse and act superior in their Tesla.

Nobody could drive them or charge them the the Chicagoland area when the temps were subzero in January .

Everyone missing the big picture here with electric vehicles, it's not about when most people will own one but what changes in the society and the world will bring, we don't know yet...

If you have the ability to charge at home, EV is the way to go for most people. I drive 30k miles/yr and save a shit ton on Fuel, . Always having a full (80% charged) battery every morning for my commute is so convenient. I never have to go to gas stations, etc..

It’s not going to happen over 5 years. It will take a while, and most people aren’t going to get into the electric car game until all the kinks are worked out. When I can get in an electric car and travel the world without stopping to charge every 300 miles.

MGUY said it best “ 3 F’s of EVs….Fanboys, Fleet Sales and Freebies ( government subsidies) “

How will it happen? Insurance for an electric car is $500.00 / month minimum has no resale value therefore is obsolete in 6 years the exact same time it’s paid off

I'm not sure. Germany still refuses to let them take over and are the frontrunners when it comes to technology

Does anyone have any actual figures of the infrastructure that we have now and what we need for EV adoption? How much electricity does it take to refine the gasoline equivalent? EV's will have vehicle to gridand off peak AI tariffs, eg. Octopus energy intelligent Go tariff. People will charge from home with solar eg. Zappi chargers. They all won't be charging at the same time. Can EV adoption work and is it working now?

Something your forgetting is that Americas infrastructure is going to improve and be modernized many trades union have huge huge projects in the upcoming years and don’t forget how much technology has improved since when the infrastructure was built and electricity will be solved in decade or two with ITER project

The many EV disadvantages do not outweigh the single advantage

The US EV market is now 5%, and growing. EV's will take over long before you think, by the middle of this decade it will be obvious to everyone. By the end of the decade, EV's will dominate.

It will stop abruptly just as it did 120 years ago . More pollution is produced in mining and manufacturing of EV's .

Telsa fantasy world. There is no "Transition to electric vehicles" Not that people don't like EVs - there isn't enough lithium. Even IF you devoted every ounce of the 100, 000 Tons of lithium to EVs max is 10 million Ys. But there are 1 billion cell phones, battery farms, laptops etc. all using lithium; so the real number is 5 to 6 million in a market of 100 million vehicles annually, 5-6% niche market isn't a transition. At this point EV advocates say what about sodium what about carbon .. what about them? There isn't a single vehicle incorporating them yet. More sobering? 1.4 Billion light vehicles exist of which EVs are 0.3%. Add to this EVs don't work for a lot of purposes - they perform terribly under load. A Rivian truck towing a trailered Mustang only goes 120 miles before needing a charge, 100 miles in frigid weather.. same goes for any EV under load; their range is horrible in that circumstance. If it were not for "subsidies" they wouldn't even be selling well; EVs are more costly than alternatives.
