I was getting FREE 5 gal buckets from a grocery store bakery. They were so kind, called me when they had some.... Eventually I, on occasion, realized I was drawing some attention from a couple of employees as to what I was doing with them... So I started going at 7:00 a.m.when the store just opened for the day. As always, be mindful of who might be paying a little too much attention to you! ❤️🇺🇸👍💪🙏

I also wanted to add, save your glass or plastic seasoning containers. Their great to put your dehydrated herb mixes in. Also, the plastic Parmesan cheese sprinkle tops fit on mason jars to use for your own grated cheeses.

I use my coffee mate 5.1lbs containers to put my beans and rice in until I can put them in large jars. I leave them in their bags till I get the jars 😊

Love the Classico jars, I use them for a lot of my vacuum packing with the Food Saver. I get a little low key mad if someone brings home a different brand of sauce 😂

I've been buying new metal garbage cans and storing long term food in them. Not directly in the can itself, obviously...lol, but in foodsaver bags and mason jars. It's dry and dark in there and best of all they're critter proof!

I got free opaque 35 gallon barrels with the lids from my local soda pop bottling company. They are glad to get rid of them. Had a little pop syrup residue I cleaned out but was great. I covered them with dark tarps so bacteria wouldnt grow in the sun. Used them to store emergency water. Figured i could always use my Berkey or purification tabs & boiling to sterilize it.

I use Tidy cat litter buckets. I place white trash bags in it. Then they are filled with sealed food. I get them from cat rescue free. They hold just over 5 gal. They stack very well. I have 5 high.

Dishwasher soap tabs will help remove food odors from food containers.

I just learned something from the provident prepp. It is important to have other ways to cook. They filled buckets with BBQ brickets to store. I learn so much from all of you.

I keep all of my glass and plastic containers and their lids from salsa, peanut butter, coffee, creamer, olives, iced tea mix, pickles and so on and use those for storing a lot of things....food and otherwise. Even if buckets and lids are NOT food safe, I use those to store things like first aid supplies, bars of soap, cleaning rags and so on in.

I literally dropped a jar of broth I canned in an Atlas jar and it didn’t break. The lid even stayed sealed! I had another 2 jars fall out of my SUV onto the gravel driveway and they were perfectly fine too! 😂 I’m so clumsy!

We have a friend who's neighbor works at a food plant, they're able to get 4 & 5 gallon sized buckets that had chocolate syrup in them for free, they don't have lids but we use them for lots of things, even have drilled drainage holes and use them for container gardening.❤❤

15 years ago Dollar Tree had tall containers that hold 12 cups of beans, flours, what ever your storing wish I would have bought 8 but got 4. I have bought the other DT containers, so I have total of 12 of the containers with the white lids. I had 4 five gallon buckets, I got rid of it was to much food at one time for me to store, and my food was starting to go stale before I could use it up so now the DT containers have been the best for me to store in.

I've been using those Classico jars for years also! And yes, I think they are thicker than Ball jars as well. Omg BUCKETS!! I was at my egg lady's house the other day. She got 18 pickle buckets from some guy at Chick Fil A. Now only a few of them had lids. She said she'd just plant a tomato or pepper in those. They weren't white though. They were green. Any time I've ever asked places for buckets I've had no luck. So, I just stopped trying. Obviously, people like my egg lady have hook ups I guess.

I got a lot online, 5 gallon food grade buckets with the lid for $1.00 each. I bought 60 of them. I thought I found a gold mine with them. I have stored so much in them. Any food that is in glass jars, I buy if my family likes it. I reuse the jars and the lids. Sauce jars, pickle, olives, sauerkraut, 5 pounds of honey jars, gallon glass jars that I get from Costco that has honey, ginger and lemon in it, large glass jars of preserves or jelly. Liquor bottles that are glass, I store rice, or orzo or spices in it for short term storage whatever we use within 3 to 6 months. I make sugar syrup ahead of time and put them in glass bottles so I don't have to make it that often. I put my home made vanilla extract in the glass bottles, also oregano tinctures. I have my friends giving my glass liquor bottles, because we don't drink. I wash them out and reuse them. We save the Arizona ice tea gallon bottles, made with heavy duty food grade plastic and we store water in it. I have yet to have any of them leak. Have to reuse and save our food in it. Keep prepping everyone. 🇺🇲

Good info as always! I need to buy distilled water regularly so I spend about ten cents more per gallon to get the clear jugs that don’t break down as fast as the milky colored jugs. These are perfect for things like pasta that can be sharp and puncture a vacuum sealed bag. Thanks Jinne

My daughter works at a fruit stand..they make fresh pies there. She got me a dozen of the 5 gallon buckets & some 3 gallon ones too. I love them to store dry foods in. I had been buying them from wallys for $1 each. Then some lady (a friend of one of the employees) had her save them for her. My son bought me a jar sealer (it's a single one that's recharable) I've been vacuum sealing jars of dry food. IE: oats, cream of wheat cereal & rice. It's so great. Only takes 20 seconds to seal the jar. I do freeze the food for a few days then let it come back to room temp before I jar it up.
